Guest guest
Can anyone tell me if there is a Chinese remedy for a hugely bulging, swollen knee in a 69-year old, healthy, active man? It doesn't hurt much. He can't kneel on it, though. He thinks he may have banged it but can't recall, as it wasn't traumatic at the time. Thank you. Guest guest
There's a formula that Kampo medicine (Japanese style Chinese herbalism) uses for " swollen knees " when they aren't particularly red or inflammed. That's called fang ji huang qi tang or " Stephania and Astragalus Combination " . I would kind of think that this formula would more apply to both knees, as it is mostly a diuretic formula. Seems like if it is just one knee, some sort of trauma caused it. I would also consider a thrombosis situation where there's a local blood clot clogging things up. He might want to rule that out with his physician as it can be life threatening if the clot were to move into his heart, lungs or brain. -al.
