There are a few approaches to this herbally, most require a little more

information.

Muscle spasms can be due to internal wind which generally arises from a lack

of blood or yin fluids. Wind can also be stress-induced, so if your aches

and pains are worse when you're angry or frustrated, then try something to

calm the " Liver " which will help you from head to toe.

Knowing nothing else, you can try some " shao yao gan cao tang " which is kind

of a go-to herb combo for muscle spasms. If you need it long-term, it is

better to add to a formula that addresses the cause for the internal wind

(muscle spasms) at the same time. Gan cao is licorice root. (Bai) shao yao

is white peony root.

Gan cao is sweet, (bai) shao yao is sour. Sweet and sour used together

generate fluids which nourish the Liver and hence calm the internal wind,

for those of you keep score on theoretical mechanisms at home.

Also, long-term use of gan cao (licorice root) has been associated with a

rise in blood pressure. It takes a few months and the dosage needs to be

significant, but if you take these herbs for a few months, be sure to have

your BP checked regularly.
