Guest guest
I rarely get ill but when I do, I do it with vengeance!! I now have pneumonia. It started as a simple raw throat 2 1/2 weeks ago & my lymph nodes on the left side of my throat being tender. I think because I was under heavy stress then, an infection was able to develop but not saying so for certain. Stressful situation was resolved in a few days but enough to get me sick. I'm not well enough to see my TCM doctor who lives about 40 minutes away but I was able to phone him to talk. He asked me a large list of questions & got me to describe all my symptoms. My son who lives close enough to his clinic will pick them up for me tomorrow to bring out. Can anyone recommend some acupuncture points that I could do acupressure on to help me feel better, please? I'll list symptoms as a help but not sure if I'll cover all that's needed for good advice. 1. No fever at all but profuse sweating, mostly at night but frequently during the day too. Drenched with sweat in fact during these bouts. I always feel better mid-afternoon for a few hours then lousy the rest of the time. 2. Ongoing dull persistent headache that's become worse since symptoms #6 & 7 have developed. 3. Sore throat initially for first few days then it went away though lymph nodes still swollen on both sides of neck under my jaws. 4. Profuse dark thick yellow sputum coughed up from the bronchial tubes that gradually became harder & harder to cough up though I do a lot of hard coughing. (I've had pneumonia a couple of times before & as the infection goes deeper in the chest, it becomes more painful to cough & harder to bring up sputum. 5. Still have my appetite though not overly hungry as I'm not active since I'm so ill. Can still taste food (other 2 times with pneumonia, I lost my appetite & taste completely.) 6. Last night, after being ill for almost 2 1/2 weeks, my sinuses quickly became congested & profuse thinner light yellow mucous can be easily blown out. 7. Along with symptom #6, my ears are plugged & it feels like I'm under water. 8. No difficulty breathing though I need to do a lot more open mouth breathing since I'm my nose is so plugged up. 9. Somewhat achy all over though not severely. Still, everything hurts. Can anyone recommend some points that would help stop the coughing as it's become unproductive or at least ease the coughing? It can go on bad enough that I start gagging & the muscles in my lower abdomen hurt a LOT. Anything else that may help me feel better, please? I've been staying warm, keeping warmth on my chest & drinking lots of hot liquids. My TCM doctor has recommended certain foods that I should NOT eat while I'm ill with this too. I finally broke down & got antibiotics from my western doctor when I realised it had changed to pneumonia. He said my lungs were filled with mucous with lots of rattles, crackles & wheezing but that my throat & ears looked good (symptoms #6 & 7 started *after* I had seen him) & if no improvement by early next week, I'm to see him again. My TCM doctor has told me before that my Lungs & Heart were strong & I was healthy other than some Kidney Yin deficiency & too much Liver Yang but not badly. I'm familiar with various points & meridians & should have no trouble any that I'm told will help. I can use Acuxo.com <http://www.acuxo.com/meridianPictures.asp> as a reference guide. When I'm well enough, I will go to my TCM doctor.
Guest guest
I'm not going to go into too much depth regarding every single symptom or your history at this point. But points that you can get to that may help you out include: Lung 5 for any phlegm in the lungs. Found in the crook of the elbow, meaning the when you slightly flex your elbow, the little depression found in the corner there. Large Intestine 4 for any problems above the neck. Also clears heat. Ren 17, for coughing and chest problems. On Sat, Oct 24, 2009 at 11:25 PM, Judy Wilkins <isomorphix wrote: > > > I rarely get ill but when I do, I do it with vengeance!! Guest guest
Thank you, Al. Very much appreciated. Had a very troubling night so I looked up what I could find. I found Ren 17 point (didn't know it as that but as CV 17 (Shan Zhong). I can tell when I have the right spot as it's incredibly tender (imitating what I've learned from my TCM doctor). It's so tender, I swear it feels like it's badly bruised but that was before I even worked on the spot. And I've been told I have a very high pain thresh-hold too! I didn't know about Lu 5 & it's easy to get at. So is LI 4 & will be useful since sinus congestion started a little over a day ago. I figured some of the helpful points were unreachable (as on my back). What do you think of Ki 22 (Bu Lang) as I found that almost as painful as Ren 17 to touch? Also, does it matter what side of the body I use in the points except for Ren 17 (as it's directly in the middle)? Is one side better to use for a woman that the other side or does it make a difference? I did find after working Ren 17 last night, that the painful fits of coughing has eased a lot & now more mucous can be coughed up. Thank you again, Al!!! You're a life-line for those of us who can't get to our doctors & need help & advice. gratefully, Judy On Sunday 25 October 2009 08:13:08 am Al Stone wrote: > I'm not going to go into too much depth regarding every single symptom or > your history at this point. Guest guest
Hey there, I thought I might mention something to see if it helps. It's not specifically about the points you are looking for. Have you ever tried a neti pot? I find that they are very helpful for breaking up that thick mucus at the back of your throat. It's probably not as helpful now that you have pneumonia, as it would be when you first noticed the symptoms. In my experience if you can get that mucus thinned out and gone out of your throat when you feel it first coming on, it really reduces the ability for the stuff to breed in your throat that causes you problems. It's most effective when you can get the flow to go through one side of your nose and out your mouth. You might be surprised at how much mucus the upper pallet can hold. The salt in the solution seems to be really effective at getting the mucus hydrated and thinned out so it comes out more easily. I find that it works really well for me, and prevents me from getting a lot of colds that I would otherwise come down with, hopefully you have the same luck =)
