Did anyone see the Dr Oz show today? It's kind of interesting because he's been

a featured health expert on the Opera Show for a while. He's got a traditional

western MD and is a cardiothoracic surgeon.

On the show today he promoted acupuncture for weight loss saying it can help

reduce stress and control hunger cravings (ie hormones).

I thought it was a pretty good presentation for an introduction to acupuncture,

and it's pretty cool that an MD would promote it for something like weight loss.

One thing that I have some reservations about is that he said that you don't

have to exercise or diet, implicating that the patient can just be compliant

with regular visits and he or she will loose weight. I'd like to see more

personal responsibility for choices and see this as more of a tool to help you

make those choices that are going to promote healthy well being.

Overall though I thought it was pretty good, and the acupuncturist that they

chose was very professional (and surprisingly a TCM trained practitioner rather

than an MD or chiropractor with L.Ac credentials) and on top of things in the

way he presented. He presented in a way that was down to earth and still gave a

clear picture to those who might have little or no exposure. Might be worth

checking out if you missed it =)
