Rather you can also look at it as a sensation in the chest or heart or body somewhere. You want this sensation to go away. This is your goal, not so much eliminating the quantity of sugar you want, but the ability to quell those sensations that that generate unhealthy desires. Two ways that I know of to address this: 1. Shen calming herbs. Shen means " spirit " . 2. Meditation. The goal of meditation is to locate that switch inside of you that enables you to calm yourself down. This calm can apply to any addiction. One way to do this is to allow that desire for sugar to grow. But instead of trying to make it go away, perceive it. Look at it. Allow that feeling to take shape inside of your awareness. Note it. Allow that feeling to be there temporarily. Give it some space. It tends to go away rather quickly on its own when you stop fighting the feeling and simply standing up to it and allowing it to be noticed. Back to herbs. There are basically two approaches to shen calming. Those herbs that are heavy minerals that sit on the rising yang. This is good for the kind of calming when you are easily angered or frustrated. The other kind of shen calming herbs nourishes neurotransmitters that may be deficient. We actually call that " Heart blood " . So, formulas that nourish Heart blood are often good for insomnia, panic attacks, just about any emotional anxiety. There are a few other options too such as herbs that promote the movement of qi and/or blood. This can help calm you down too. -- , DAOM Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional. Guest guest
You need amino acids. Listen to this: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/UndergroundWellness/2009/05/06/The-Diet-Cure-with-J\ ulia-Ross.mp3 Get THE DIET CURE by Julia Ross and also SEVEN WEEKS TO SOBRIETY by Dr. Joan Mathews Larson. These cravings are the result of amino acid deficiency, and can be treated quickly, easily and effectively. Once your body reorients and detoxes, it will self regulate. But until then you should take the amino acids. This is very common in people who are recovering. You might also want to try a candida albicans detox. Guest guest
And one last comment on this sugar craving - It takes about 3 weeks for the brain to form new connections & pathways. Researchers wondered why it took around 3 weeks for a habit to be established. I mean a true habit, not an addiction. So while sugar cravings may be similar to addiction, it's also an eating habit. You can work on the other suggestions but need to modify your habits. Make sure you eliminate all sweets & treats from your pantry so if you feel like giving in, it's not there. You'd understand that as I'm sure you don't keep spirits & other alcoholic drinks in your home. Avoid walking past shops or places where you know you can nip in for a quick sugar fix. If you have to past them on a daily basis, distract yourself with sugarless gum or something - even humming to yourself while you go by. Avoid ALL sweets & sweet foods (ketchup & many sauces are VERY high in sugar). Find a non-sweetened toothpaste & /or mouthwash. While they don't contain digestible sugars, they are sweetened with other compounds that may prompt the sugar craving. There are lots of non-sweet toothpastes available though you may need to go to a health store to find one. Ask to make sure it's not sweetened at all. And do this 'religiously' for FOUR weeks. That way, you'll make sure that your brain has had enough time to rewire itself. If you follow the other suggestions & avoid ANYTHING sweet for 4 weeks, the cravings will be gone. Mind you, until your body is in proper harmony again, eating any sweets after the 4 weeks could re-awaken the cravings again. And I can attest to the fact you need more proteins (complete amino acids), magnesium & B complex vitamins to help. Rather than relying on a B complex supplement, buy some good nutritional yeast flakes & use them as your B complex source. ALL supplements of B complex either lack a few of the needed B vitamins (there are a total of 8 separate B vitamins) OR they're formulated in amounts that are not how the body uses them or the way they're found in natural foods. Yeast flakes are one of the best sources of concentrated B vitamins. Adding a good probiotic also helps or eat yoghurt every day. Guest guest
Al, maybe he's got Spleen deficiency / dampness? Once I had these conditions (moderate sugar craving + Spleen dampness). My explanation that time was that because of the Spleen dampness, the digestion was weak and inefficient, my body was not able to extract energy from more complicated foods and the energy deficiency made me to crave for the most direct source of energy, the sugar. Dear st_st_hud, could you please describe the coating of your tongue? Location, thickness, color? Tamas
Guest guest
My favorite thing is combining Glycokinetic complex, 2 at lunch, 2 at dinner, with auricular acupuncture for hunger, endocrine, stomach, liver, spleen. This seems to be very helpful!
