Hi Everyone,

I am trying to find out what I can take besides the dreaded birth control pill,

which was prescribed to me for controlling ovarian cysts. I was on the pill for

appx 6 months and then did some research, on top of all the horrible side

effects, decided to stop taking the pill. I have had several cysts form and

burst, which is why they put me on the pill. I have also had several ultrasounds

so they could monitor one in particular, which has shrunk; either due to the

pill or the natural cycle of the cyst. I can't be sure which. Anywho, it has

been 2 months since I have been off the pill, I had another cyst burst 2 days

ago. So, I am aware that they are still forming.

I am looking for a TCM herbalist to guide me.

Any thoughts and/or referrals would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Lani,

When the cysts burst, do you have a clear watery vaginal discharge or

something like that?

Is there a lot of pain? Is it sharp in nature? dull in nature?

Excessive PMS or pain during the period?

Trying to put this on to the Chinese medicine map here.

Hi Al,

I don't notice any discharge. There is a lot of pain, ranges from sharp to dull,

from my belly button to lower abdonmen and swelling. january 08 burst caused a

hospital stay, due to the pain being so severe that it twisted my lower

intestine and blocked it. This one 2 days ago was not even close to the level of

that one.

Not much pain during period or many PMS symptoms.

Thank you!

Are there any other symptoms that are observable by you? I'm asking about

your perceptions, not lab findings.

It is your symptoms (and signs once in the presence of a TCM person) that

will guide the treatment principle.

I might have a yeast imbalance. Other than that, I only notice symptoms when

it occurs.

Almost like I have a urinary tract infection, the pulling feeling in the lower,

or severe gas in the upper abdomen. Nausea, bloating, tenderness to touch or

movement.

Sounds like Al has got you on a good course. Looks like you're only about 190

miles from him =P

Anyways if you want to find someone close to you, you're welcome to either

respond with your zip code on here, or e-mail it to me privately, and I'd be

glad to help.

If you want to do it yourself, there are two main search engines that I know of,

acufinder.com and the NCCAOM one. Good luck =)

She's actually about an hour away, but perhaps she can find someone closer

than Santa Monica.

So, where I'd begin with this is the understanding that stagnation causes

pain. The fact that the pain is both sharp and dull says that we might want

to treat it as both blood (sharp pain) and qi (dull pain) stagnation.

The next question is what is causing that? There are a few things that can

clog up the highway and byways for the qi and blood. Stagnation of qi and

blood can exist all by itself or arise due to something else, most often

dampness and/or phlegm. Phlegm is congealed dampness.

The fact that it is treatable by birth control supports another cause which

would derive from the Liver Blood or the Chong Mai (penetration vessel).

Liver blood is menstrual blood and more widely something like female

hormones. When Liver blood stagnates, not only is it painful, but it

generally waxes and wanes along with the menstrual cycle.

The Chong Mai is said to be the " Sea of Blood " and represents the resovoir

from which the Liver can get more blood. The other concept is another of the

eight extraordinary meridians, the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel). Some

Chong/Ren problems also look like dampness, especially when arising with

inappropriate vaginal discharge ala your possible yeast infection.

The best way to really differentiate these different options would be tongue

and pulse, obviously. The stagnation tongue will look purple in color. The

phlegm damp tongue will have a coating that is so thick that you can't see

through it. It is entirely possible to have a purple tongue with a thick

coating as well.

Oh, I see that now, only about 40 miles =P That's not too bad. When I typed in

Orange, for some reason it pulled up Orange Cove instead, and I missed it.

Okay, Wow! So now it'll only take me about 2 days research all of that

information! Trying to figure out which path to take. :) From my amateur

analysis, I don't see that I have a purplish or coated tongue. But then again, I

haven't looked before to see what it would normally look like. I read somwhere

that the Liver also has to do with the energy of anger which encompasses, guilt,

regret, frustration, etc. Of which I have been carrying around for the past 5

years a great deal! And my " cyst " problems started about 3 years ago.

It is not completely foreign to me, I do have a basic understanding of what you

are saying.

It will be an adventure well worth taking.

Carrying anger for five years, and cysts for three. That's very supportive

of the Liver Blood stagnation diagnosis.
