What is " a lot of hard old phlegm " ? If you're coughing up stuff, that's

phlegm.

Phelgm can be substantial (such that you see it coming out of the lungs) or

insubstantial (everything everywhere else).

While Spleen qi deficiency can cause dampness leading to phlegm, there are

other mechanisms beyond Spleen qi deficiency that can do this.

If your diet is particularly hard to digest, that can produce dampness.

There is a thin line between food that is difficult to digest and Spleen qi

deficiency. If you have Spleen qi deficiency, you'll not be able to digest

anything well. If you eat things that are difficult to digest, your Spleen,

even if it is healthy, will be unable to digest it.

So, look at your diet. Also, there are many other related issues that can

cause blating after you eat such as peristaltic disorders (CM: Liver/Spleen

or Stomach disharmony).

Thanks Al

What is " a lot of hard old phlegm " ?-

Insubstantual phlegm-many lumps under my skin,in my neck,my chest and its been

there for many years so i wonder if its turned toxic if its been there for that

long?

No cough but always clearing throat and bring up only small amount of clear

bubbly phlegm but very often.I tried taking Er Chen Wan etc but too weak/too

slow I could only feel it releasing a bit(from my head down the base of the

neck).

If i hit the " lumps " in my chest they break up and go into my digestion(slightly

more then with the above pills but get bruised)so its definitely phlegm.I'm now

cooking herbs that i've got prescribed but I dont think he put enough phlegm

clearing herbs in there more for liver qi stagnation,lv blood def and kidney yin

deficiency? which he said I also have.

Im also yellow and I've ate a really high chocolate and sugar filled diet for

about 23 years(im 28)so could maybe the sugar not have been transformed into

whatever its meant to be transform into and turned into phlegm?

How do you know if your digesting well or not?If you don't have wind(ever),and

no cramps, noises or reflux during eating does that mean your digestion is good

or is it more subtle then that?

Also i have waves of heat like being on fire(sometimes burning mouth too but no

ulcers etc but slimy, itchy feeling on roof of mouth)-do you possibly know what

that could mean?Yin deficiency fire?(but i'm 28 and no cracks on tongue)heart

fire?(but no insatiable thirst and arnt you meant to feel burning in the heart

area which i dont),liver fire?(is that more likely because also having liver qi

stag and lv blood def and get angry and frustrated heaps) or something else

completely different

Thanks alot for your help

Mary

The toxic aspect of it isn't too important at this point. I have difficulty

really understanding what people mean when they say something is " toxic " in

Chinese medicine. Toxic heat I get. There are herbs specifically for toxic

heat. Thing an infection that causes pus.

" Damp toxin " refers to dampness that oozes out of the skin. I heard of " cold

toxin " recently too, but I think that it isn't very well defined, nor is

" phelgm toxin " . I've never actually heart of toxic phlegm, but you know, CM

is a big study and not hearing of it doesn't mean it isn't talked about out

there. If it is, it isn't being discussed around me. :)

take more, take it for a longer period of time... years if necessary.

There is more than one way to address phlegm nodules. Moving qi can help

disperse those nodules, so that may not be a bad idea.

sugar (in excessive quantities) can weaken or slow the functions of the

Spleen. This leads to the product of damp, this leads to the production of

phlegm.

Those are good indicators. I like to look at well-formed daily poop too.

slimy itchy in the mouth is probably dampness.

Yeah, sounds like it could be liver fire causing the heat waves. or yin

deficiency.

Al,

What are the best foods for a weak spleen? What is to be avoided?

Other than foods what else will help with fulness, burping, heaviness after

meals?
