The other brand that I run into now and then is called " Chuan Bei Pi Pa Gao " . That " Pi Pa Gao " is the same as " Pei Pa Koa " and means " Loquat Syrup " . Different English transliteration methods. Its somewhat sugery, though. Might be an issue for diabetics, but great for the kids who have a dry sore throat or cough. Pi Pa (Ye) is loquat leaf and a stop-coughing herb. Its also good for rebellious Stomach qi resulting in nausea or hiccoughs. Cough is considered rebellious qi in the Lungs. Rebellious means (in this context) going in the opposite direction. Lung and Stomach qi both should descend, not ascend. When Stomach qi rises, it causes nausea, vomiting, and hiccoughs. The hiccoughs as rising Stomach qi isn't quite as self-evident, but you can think of it at least as a sudden temporary interuption of the descending qi. That " Chuan Bei " from the other cough syrup is " Chuan Bei Mu " or the Frittilary bulb from Sichuan province. It is found in both syrups. It clears heat from the Lungs (think of that as antibiotic or anti-viral), transforms phelgm (makes phlegm go away), and nourishes yin in the Lungs (moisturizes the Lungs). This makes it very effective for " dry phlegm " or phlegm that is difficult to expectorate. It also is good for a dry cough in general since it nourishes the yin (fluids) of the Lungs. The wikipedia entry for Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nin_Jiom_Pei_Pa_Koa> says it has the Chuan Bei Mu. It also suggests that " Nin Jiom " means " in memory of my mother " . I'm not sure if the inventor was remembering his mother or if that was an allusion to the other key ingredient in this formula which is Chuan Bei Mu which translates to something like " Sichuan shell mother " . -al. -- , DAOM Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional. Guest guest
Thanks for that Al! In the past I used to have a cough for weeks on end, maybe 5-6 weeks and always woke up at night, now after having taken this syrup, I feel great after using if for about a week. Will keep my eyes open for the other ones that you mentioned. Susi

Guest guest
You can get the cough syrup in the US here: http://dragonherbs.com/prodinfo.asp?number=662 I should note that I do work at Dragon Herbs, but I do not get any commission or have any other financial interest in where you might purchase this formula. -al.
