Guest guest
Wanted to pose a question out there to all practitioners. If you are asked to treat a COLLEAGUE (Another Doctor), or one of their family members.. a) Since Doctors often give a courtesy to other Doctors and their family, do you waive your fee totally ? Or do you charged a reduced amount ?
Guest guest
I've charged practitioners full price and other practitioners have gotten services from me for free. In my opinion this is 100% social context. There is no correct answer. I had one practitioner come to me and insist on paying full price. They believed (and rightly so) that if you pay a discount, you get a discounted service. There is some truth to this no matter how much we like to think otherwise. Full price gets you a practitioner who's incentive is better aligned to that of the patient. Incentive matters. -al. Guest guest
I completely agree with Al. If there are circumstances that lead you to do a sliding scale or even gratis, then great. I've seen where full price yields better results. Wierd.....?.... Certainly there are the old traditions of healers being advised not to ever charge Daosit masters for treatment but the context and society differences must be considered. (Also don't know too many Daoist masters.) Then there are members of the chiropractic community that never charge fellow DC's.... So more questions than answers. What feels right to you? Guest guest
Hi D, Also just for the record, I always pay my acupuncturist full fee. Just want to keep it clean. She is not rich and needs to get paid for her education, skills and art. Just feels right to not " owe something. " I don't charge my wife for full treatment and have been known to " release a couple of points " for close friends or collegues if it's a brief treatment. That all being said, I think people that I want to work with know we all have to pay the rent. I always thought that it's easier to do sliding scales coming from a place of financial abundance and selectively offering where it's needed.
