TCM view on crabs, lobsters and prawns during Pregnancy

many of my aunts, friends, etc said pregnant women shouldn't eat crabs,

lobsters, prawns because it is " toxic " . I wonder if there is a basis

based on TCM or just an old wives tale.

I had a classically-trained TCM teacher who told people with certain

conditions to avoid shellfish such as you describe. The reasoning had more

to do with their salty nature, I believe. Salty flavor is said to " soften

hardness " in TCM. Perhaps that applies to a fetus too. I dunno, really. :)

I don't know about TCM, but I don't think this to be an ol wive's tale

since these crestations are like garbage disposales for the waters.

Toxic seems to be a good word.

Yeah, there can be mercury poisoning in them. I think in dietary

therapy, shrimp are considered to tonify yangqi.
