Guest guest
There are some acupuncturists who routinely use their hands, scanning above the skin, to identify areas of qi imbalances and to find the acupuncture points. In what extent is this technique accepted or part of the official TCM education/practice? Is there some literature about this topic? Is this technique mentioned in the classic works? I am familiar with these techniques as they were first taught to me long before I began to study TCM in a school. But, I don't see them too often anymore. There are lots of palpatory diagnosis techniques that also favor looking at the trajectory of the channel and observing any tissue changes either visually or with the hands/fingers. But as for feeling for heat or cold, etc. arising from points and channels, I haven't seen that in the official literature coming out of China. There have to be some traditions out there that continue to teach these techniques. Just haven't run into them myself beyond what my kung fu teacher passed on. I uploaded my class notes<http://www.acupuncture.com/education/diagnosis/qiqualities.htm>(from 1989!) to acupuncture dot com on this very topic: http://www.acupuncture.com/education/diagnosis/qiqualities.htm -al. -- , DAOM Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.
