Guest guest
Hi , I just graduated from TCM college in 2006, now serving my in-housemanship (aka apprenticeship). Recently , my father-in-law(age 68) 's vision is blur in the centre of his right eye. After western doc 's diagnosis, it is confirmed to be Age related macular degeneration. I like to seek advise as to how TCM treat this. I read before that TCM herbs & acupuncture does helps. Appreciate anyone to share their experience in treating this Thanks Gwen (a Chinese staying in Singapore) Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger. Guest guest
I have a patient who's retina partial detached a few years back. With the help of some rest and herbs, the retina has partially reattached, but her vision is not 100% of what it was. Her TCM differentiation was Kidney/Liver yin deficiency, and so she was put on to a modified Ming Mu Di Huang Wan. Her vision has gotten somewhat better, but not worse. I include that last portion because her doctor commented on her eye's progress. He said " whatever it is that she's taking, continue to do so. " There are quite a few formulas that target the eyes, but of course you have to differentiate the syndrome/pattern. As far as acupuncture goes, same thing applies. Treat the pattern, but many books also encourage use of local points such as GB 1, UB 1, UB 2, St. 1, St. 2, GB 14, etc... -al. Guest guest
 Hi Xi-Fu.  Get your father's Chinese Medical diagnosis as clear as possible. Get everything straight. Is it yin, yang, or dual yin-yang deficiency? In what organ is it focussed? Where did it show up first? Once you have that straight, it will be very easy to see how to proceed.  In the meantime, it would be a good idea to start him on " 石 斛 夜 光 丸 " /Shi Hu Ye Guan Wan, unless he has a strong yang deficiency.  When giving him pills, get the newest batches possible from reputable manufacturers. That way you get pure herbs that are fresh.  However, once you get his pattern established, he will need to take the raw herbs and cook them and everything.  I've treated many cases of MD, and they tend to improve quite a bit so long as the patient is motivated.  Please contact me for any advice or questions.  Hugo Xi-Fu Weng <weng_xifu chinesehealing Tuesday, 6 May, 2008 10:30:06 AM [Chinese Traditional Medicine] age related macular degeneration ->any Good recommendation Hi , I just graduated from TCM college in 2006, now serving my in-housemanship (aka apprenticeship) .
