Guest guest
Hello, I understand that a healthy/normal man's pulse is going to feel stronger than a woman's pulse. I was wondering if that strength should be felt stronger in all positions or just on the patient's left or right cun/guar/chi point. Thanks! This is really just like " men as a rule are taller " or heavier, etc. Its the entire body, not just one position of the pulse. This really brings up a good point in regards to diagnostic observations. All of these things need to be kept in context. When I have a patient, the first thing that I do is assess one's constitution before applying weight or importance to any one diagnostic finding. For instance, a patient who often feels cold, we'd probably think about Kidney yang deficiency. But if that patient is very thin and simply doesn't have the body fat that others have, this may not really be Kidney yang deficiency, but simply a constitutional reality of being more sensitive to cold because they're not wearing a coat beneath the skin (fat content). However, if that same person is also getting up a bunch of times per night to urinate, has chronic low back pain, loss of libido, dark circles beneath the eyes, etc. then I might say that this individual does have a Kidney yang deficiency. A woman with a delicate (deficient) constitution may have a pulse that is thin and possibly weak. This is not as big of a deal as in a man with a hearty (excess) constitution who's pulse is thin and weak. So, you always gotta compare the pulse findings to constitutional expectations too... -- , DAOM Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.
