Guest guest
I am currently being treated for this by a TCM acupuncturist/herbalist from China. My major symptoms are constant stuffy nose, bad breath, and tinnitus. I have other symptoms but they are minor compared to the above. I have a hard time communicating with my TCM person because he speaks only broken english. However he did show me a book that explained what is happening to me. Here are my questions. Can Tinnitus be cured. I have been told from my western doctor that it cannot. I have been told by my TCM person it can. Does anyone know of one person who has his Tinnitus 100% cured? I have a son who plays hockey so I am in rinks alot. Usually the nights I go to see my son, I come back with a stuffed up nose and have a terrible sleep that night. I feel exhausted and my concentration is reduced to near nil. Will this be cured one day or am i stuck with this for life? I love hockey and live in a cold climate. The symptoms I mention in the paragraph above are duplicated when I do exhaustive exercises, like long hikes, or play soccer. Is there a diet out there that would aid my recovery along with what the TCM person is doing for me? I only drink two cups of coffee a day which I know is bad for me. Other facts. I had a high amount of mecury in me at one time and a huge libido to go with it. Over sexed contributes to this problem as well I heard. So I have really cut back on this. Would appreciate any reply. Thanks.
Guest guest
Hello Canbeavereh: To answer your questions, first, Western Medicine has no theory to explain tinnitus in a way that leads to a solution, so your WM doctor tells you it can't be cured. Western Medicine doesn't have a workable solution, and neither does your WM doctor. He simply doesn't know how, that's all. Here is how Wiseman and Ye describe Kidney Vacuity Tinnitus: " Observed in vacuity patients and the elderly. Takes the form of a fine thread-like sound that occurs frequently and is accompanied by limp aching lumbus and knees, enuresis, seminal emission and a fine, weak pulse that is forceless at the cubit. Medicine: Enrich yin and supplement the kidney with Six Ingredient Rehmannia Pill, " etc. There are also Qi Vacuity and Liver Fire Tinnitus described herein. What exactly is your Chinese doctor doing for you? Herbs or acupuncture? Both? Ice rinks are cold places, especially early in the mornings, and this will affect you. But do they also add chemicals to treat the ice? This could be another factor. As to how long this will last, that depends upon the quality of your doctor, the treatment he applies, and the strength of the disease. If you'd like a medical divination to figure the answer, email me off list at mojavecowboy I will need to know key times, such as date and time of your doctor's visits, or date and time of when you posted this email, as well as your geographical location. As to diet, perhaps others on the list could add suggestions or you might search the group archives. Guest guest
Hi From your description, it seems that your body is in pretty good condition. The way that your body responds to coldness (or cold energy in TCM terms) is very hasty, which is a characteristic of someone who has above average body energy. As you have noticed yourself, the symptoms tend to occur after your visits to the hockey rink. My speculation is that after your body catches the excess cold energy from the hockey rink, your body will try to dispose the cold energy later that night. Such process is also called Lungs' Yang, or simply an increase in energy in your lungs. Using Ying and Yang to explain things may seem a bit mystical, but it actually makes a lot of sense if you think about it. When your body is exposed in cold temperature, much of the cold energy will be stored inside your lungs. Sometimes the cold energy may get in gradually through your skin, but in your case because you were staying inside a hockey rink, a colder place than usual, chances are that much of the cold energy entered into your lungs as simply breathing cold air. In order for your body to dispose of the cold energy inside your lungs, it needs to increase the energy of your lungs (in other words, Lungs Yang) to dispose the cold energy either through sneezing or running/stuffy nose and coughing. During this process, besides these 2 symptoms that I just mentioned, there are other possible symptoms. You might wake up feeling sweat near the chest area in the morning. During the early part of the cold-disposing process, you may experience constipation, however, towards the end of the process, you may experience diarrhea. After the diarrhea, the cold symptoms such as stuffy nose/sneezing will subside until next time your body is disposing cold energy. Your tinnitus may likely be the result of your body disposing its cold energy. When your body uses much of its energy on your lungs, there may not be enough blood/energy carried to your head area which will cause some symptoms in your sight/hearing or just general dizziness in some cases. Tinnitus is likely not an illness in itself, but rather a symptom that is caused by somewhere else in your body. My suggestion would be to pay more attention in keeping warm either by wearing more cloth or try to stay away from exposing yourself in cold temperatures for extensive amount of time. I am not sure if Chinese ginger tea is available in your area, the tea is usually mixed with a lot of black sugar so that the taste isn't too strong/spicy. If you can find ginger tea in your local Chinese medicine store, drink it after you return from cold temperature and try to let your body sweat it out. It is also helpful if you can get plenty of rest when you feel the cold symptoms. Your body needs time to work the healing process, therefore it is ideal that you give it sufficient time and rest to let it do its work. Hope this helps! Guest guest
Hello, Hugo: Well, I don't give medical advice over the internet, but it is possible to analyze medical problems with Qi Men Dun Jia. What I do is to identify medical problems and suggest to the person that they seek medical help locally. For example, I have remained in China for the past five years, but recently (in the past three months) have detected a urinary tract infection in a California woman, in a divination which concerned her relationship. The woman never mentioned the infection to me, I raised the issue with her, and she confirmed my suspicions. She has since visited a local practitioner and has gotten treatment for the infection. A man in the UK requested recently requested a series of divinations about his career moves. At the same time I was able to detect the source of his medical problems, which western medical doctors, with MRI's and CAT scans, were unable to detect. A subsequent visit to a local practitioner verified my findings. The man is on the road to recovery, where doctors of western medicine were left baffled. This was a secondary divination, one that I saw and inquired about. I have published articles about medical divination here: chinesemedicinetimes.com/.../medical_divination_with_qi_men_dun_jia I have tried to publish more, but Attilio and Co. no longer are willing to publish my articles. Philica prevents me from uploading more articles. This year I wrote an article in which I predicted that Fidel Castro would live well into 2007. At the time, the US Government was saying that Castro was dying of cancer and would soon die. Castro is still alive today, and he suffered from diverticular disease, not cancer. Times declined to publish without any stated reason. I would discuss this more in forums, but some well-respected people throw tantrums (not in this forum, another). I recommend this as another diagnostic tool for practitioners of Chinese medicine, and it is best used in person. It has proven difficult to get this information to practitioners, since there is apparently a block in many quarters about my articles. Since I am expert in medical divination, it takes but a few minutes for me to analyze an individual's medical condition. If there is something particularly dangerous, such as the woman's urinary tract infection, it is especially incumbent upon me to discuss this with the person. I've even analysed the cause of death of celebrities, based on their Qi Men Dun Jia birth charts, and these turn out amazingly accurate. More article and course listings follow. Thank you for providing me with this opportunity to explain more about medical divination. Guest guest
Gary this is very, very interesting and your points make perfect sense to me. I will definetly get some ginger tea and take your advise for after rink visits. I guess my question is why me? Other parents don't have the same problems. Is their a kidney to lung connection, where my body water level is low. This is what my TCM is trying to correct. I have noticed that I wake up a couple of times at night and have to urinate. This seems to alleviate my stuffy nose. This may sound gross but my urine is very salty smelling. At around 6:00 a.m I can't breath through my nose, so I wake up and I notice I have to go to the bathroom. My nose is often dry and my mouth is dry (bad breath of the worst kind). What is that all about? The TCM is giving me acupunture on my nose and I think that and his pills are helping. I wondered about drinking salt water to replace the salt I am urinating out in the early morning. I tried it and I think I feel more hydrated which maybe be helping too. Look very forward to your reply. This is the best information I have had in my 10 years searching for my answer to my problems. Best of Health. Guest guest
Dear Rick It is a bit difficult to actually determine the cause of your problems because of the limited information from your description. TCM diagnosis relies on 4 methods, look, hear/smell, asking for background, and touching, or feeling pulse. If you can tell me a bit more about yourself perhaps I can have a more accurate idea on your problem. For example, age, race, which area do you live in, height, weight, skin tone, body shape, any major illness or related events in the past, any lingering illness currently. Also describe a typical day for you, like when do you wake up, when do you sleep at night, etc. As for the question " Whether my illness is genetic? " From what I know, most of our problems, especially something that's chronic and incurable, are caused by some bad habits that we have in our daily living. These habits can be physical, or even mental such as certain emotions or personal character flaws. For example, a person that is easily angered may have problems with his liver, a person that is constantly depressed and worried may have a problem with spleen, a person that just experienced extreme sorrow may have damaged his lungs. These relationships are all written in ancient TCM scriptures and are actually quite accurate in most cases. Sometimes a family that lives together may share similar habits. For example, a family where the parents sleep late at night is likely that their children will also sleep quite late. The result is that their entire family will have unhealthy sleeping patterns and share similar problems that results from that. A more basic example would be if parents enjoy eating a lot of junk food, chances are their kids would be eating junk food as well and perhaps end up with obesity. Many people may use genetics as an excuse when dealing with chronic diseases, but in reality perhaps only a small portion of the cases are actually caused by genetics. Therefore we should always try our best to fix our problems before giving up and placing the blame on our family tree. Gary
Guest guest
Hi Gary, I don't think I asked if it was genetic. I don't think it is. Although my Dad does suffer from a stuffy nose. My main question was, is there a connection between the lungs and low water (i.e. Low Kidney Qi) and about my symptoms at night. i.e. smelly urine etc.. (see last email I sent). Anyhow you asked for a few more details about myself to help with your diagnoses of me. Here are your answers: Age: 49 Race: White Height: 5'8 " Major Illness: Bleeding ulcer (when I was a kid), pneumonia a couple of times, ear infections, nose polyps, High level of mercury at one time in blood. Tinnitus (lingering), Stuffy nose (lingering), headaches around eyes and at the same time stuffy nose (lingering). Typical day. Up around 8:00 a.m., in bed around 11:00 p.m up usually twice a night because of stuffy nose. Usually around 3:00a.m and 6:00 a.m. Some nights up on and off all night cause of stuffy nose. Body Type: About 30 lbs overweight I don't know what my skin tone is, sorry. I am a male Caucasian if that is what you mean. I live right next to you in Calgary, AB. Dry & cold. Hope this helps. Thanks very much Rick - Gary Wu Chinese Traditional Medicine Friday, August 31, 2007 12:57 AM [Chinese Traditional Medicine] Re: Cold lung and Yin Kidney deficiency ( I think it is Yin?) Guest guest
Hi Rick I am not exactly sure if by low water you are referring to the 5 elements or the actual lack of water in your body. As far as I know the lack of Kidney Qi is quite common and is usually a result of the general decrease of your body energy either through age or the misuse of your body due to lifestyle. There isn't really a major relationship between your lungs and your kidney's energy level beyond that your general body energy level affects all organs. If you are referring that your body is lacking water, again it doesn't seem like the case with what you've described so far. Usually people that lack water will have dry and itchy skin and have a darker skin tone(In comparison with their own race). Unless you also have these characteristics, I don't think that is the case with you. As the same as my last post, I still think that your main problem lies in the cold energy that your body endured while in the ice rink. The reason why other parents don't experience similar problems is perhaps because their body energy isn't as good as yours. We have an incorrect assumption that people who are sick constantly have a weaker body. In fact, it is usually the opposite once we understand that some of the symptoms are not illnesses but rather our body's ways to dispose cold energy. If 2 people both receive the same amount of cold energy, but only one person was able to dispose it, you would think that person has a better body, and it might be the case with you. My suggestion would be to take better care when entering cold areas, and try to sleep earlier than 11:00PM, I would suggest 9:30 or 10:00 for best results. There are also some Western health supplements that you can take that might make the process go a little more quickly, but early and quality sleep is still the most important part of any healing process. Guest guest
Hi Gary, After giving some more thought to your analysis I would like to add a comment. Often when I exert myself for a long period of time, I start to get asthma, a dry nose and mouth. Thus the low water element theory. The dry mouth gives me the bad breath. If I had a bad stuffy nose night I will wake up totally dry and again the bad breath. The stuffy nose some people say are in fact migraines. Winters are killers, when the furnace starts working. Yes I was talking about the 5 elements. My water element is low according to my TCM. This occurrence causes me to overheat when I exert myself. The medicine and the acupuncture seem to be helping a little bit. Not so much with the stuffy nose and tinnitus (which I would sell my mother to cure), but my overall energy level and feeling of well being. I think this coupled with your advice is going to help. I'm skeptical about completely curing me. Nasal sprays help but because of their susceptibility to addiction I can only use them 3 days in a row. If this gives you more insight please feel free to comment.
