Guest guest
A few are aware from previous postings that I have a tendency to Kidney Yin deficiency with resulting Liver Yang excess. My question has to do with exercise & resulting energy. I'm very easily influenced by weather & music. Most other things don't have such an effect on me, either negatively or positively. Other people's moods don't tend to affect me strongly either. When I put on high energy music which is both cheerful & fast, I can feel an almost instantaneous change. I want to, almost *need* to move with the music & my mood immediately rises & I can work for hours as long as I have music present. But once I start moving fast, I feel SO much better. Full of life & vitality, any aches & pains gone or forgotten. Even after the music is finished, the resulting change lasts for hours usually. Is this effect of music & /or quick activity particular to any specific yin-yang pattern of any Organs? Or is this something that affects most people? I find the effect VERY strong so if it's normal for most, is such a strong effect also? Does this sustained quick activity help release or dissipate some of the rising heat from Liver Yang excess & so balance me better? Any comments are welcomed. Guest guest
Hi Judy, What you're describing is Fire-element music, which increases Heart energy. Heart is related to activity, heat, mental ability and joy, which explains your reaction. Increasing Heart energy will, indeed, reduce Liver energy. Health and illness are determined by internal and external factors. The internal ones are what we're born with -- innate predispositions, strengths and weaknesses, etc. The primary external factor is the weather. It affects everybody, but not everybody notices that. There's a bit of information on health and weather in articles on our site and in my blog. The effects of music and a discussion of emotions can be found in the 2005 edition of our annual publication, The Chinese Almanac. Guest guest
I really think the music that works for a person would depend on what he/she has been exposed to through life & their culture. I have a broad interest in music from international folk or traditional music to classical to modern music. I either like a selection or dislike (or indifferent) to it. Its effect on me might be quite different ranging from relaxing, calming, sad, happy or enervating. I select diff music depending on what mood I wish for. Music is a large part of my life & I could no more live without music as I could without fresh air & sunshine. The enervating music I have ranges from traditional Hawaiian to Celtic to some British rock to classical to trance opera to music from anime shows & games. The one thing they all have in common is they're very upbeat, have a fast & strong rythym, & my inability to hold still listening to them. I *have* to move even if I felt tired before I turned it on. Whatever affects you the same way is what would help best. You might listen to my music & think it horrible.
