Not entirely sure about how it shows up on the tounge, but it probably

would somehow as stangation in the female channel, usually due to cold

and/or dampness. The is especially true here in the states because

alot of women eat icecream and cold things around their cycle, and

women are especially prone to a damp and/or cold invasion around that

time of the month.

I guess that endometriosis shows up on the pulse and the tounge very

much the same as PCOS, because there was someone in the office of the

Dr I go to asking about weither she had endometriosis or PCOS, and he

couldn't tell by the pulse or the tounge, other than she had one or

the other. He felt her ears though around the top edge, and I don't

know if he was watching how fast they went from white back to red or

what, but in doing whatever he was doing he could tell that it was

PCOS not endometriosis. I dunno if that helps or not, but I thought I

would share it =)

Hi profhealr18, and welcome to Chinese Traditional Medicine.

What gets diagnosed and treated in TCM are TCM imbalances, not

allopathic-defined medical conditions. The particular TCM imbalance

(s) which underlie(s) the PCOS would show up in the tongue. Also in

the pulse and in various other symptoms and signs.

One of the biggest surprises to many Westerners is that there rarely

is a one-to-one correspondence between a TCM imbalance and an

allopathic-defined medical condition. People can have the same

Western-defined medical condition, but the TCM imbalances are

different. The TCM treatment will be based on what the TCM

imbalances are, not the Western diagnosis.

You can Google for the exact phase " " and must

include " PCOS " . I did, and a lot came up. One of the more

informative articles was from Giovanni Maciocia's website. It's very

informative from both an allopathic standpoint and a TCM standpoint.

" ATTERNS

" Explanation of clinical manifestations according to patterns

" I. Damp-Phlegm: there is nearly always Damp-Phlegm. The ovarian

cysts are due to Damp-Phlegm

II. Kidney deficiency: there is always a Kidney deficiency in POS

causing the hormonal imbalance. This can be Yin or Yang, more often

Yang

III. Blood stasis: there may be Blood stasis especially if the

ovarian cysts are palpable and the periods painful

IV. Liver-Fire: there may be Liver-Fire or Damp-Heat in the Liver

channel

V. Blood deficiency: there may be Blood deficiency which causes

scanty periods or amenorrhoea. "

Damp is pathological fluid in the body. Phlegm is Dampness that has

congeled and become even more of a problem than just Dampness.

(Dampness often is due to a weak Spleen, and in those cases the

Spleen will need to be strengthened.) (The names of TCM Organs are

capitalized because they are not equivalent to anatomical organs, but

are collections of functions.)

The Kidneys supply the Yin and Yang to the rest of the body. The are

Yin Tonic and Yang Tonic herbs and formulas which will supplement Yin

and Yang.

Blood Stasis means that the Blood is not flowing properly. Pain is

one of the symptoms of Blood Stasis. One of the signs of Blood Stasis

is a purple discoloration in the tongue tissue and/or skin. There are

herbs and acupoints to get Blood moving properly.

Liver-Fire is a great deal of Heat in the Liver. (This is not a good

explanation of Fire, but one that is adequate for now.) Damp-Heat

means that Dampness and Heat have teamed up together. The treatment

principle is to remove the Heat and/or Fire.

Blood Deficiency is not restricted to anemia. The Western blood tests

can be normal, but a person can still suffer from Blood Deficiency.

The B is capitalized because it's the TCM definition of Blood (its

functions) and not the Western anatomical description. There are

Blood Tonic herbs and formulas.

For readers who are new to TCM who read the article, there are 3

other terms that need to be explained:

The Du (aka Governing Vessel) is the meridian that runs up the middle

of the back and over the head to a point between the nose and upper

lip.

The Ren (Conception Vessel) is the meridian that runs up the middle

of the front of the body.

The Chong Mai (aka Penetrating Vessel) is another of the 8

Extraordinary Meridians. (The Du and Ren also are Extraordinary

Meridians. The meridians/ channels/ vessels that get worked with the

most in acupuncture are the 12 Main (Organ - i.e., Liver, Kidneys,

Spleen, Stomach, etc.) Meridians followed by the 8 Extraordinary

Meridians.

Thank you everyone for the information! It's been very helpful.

I have PCOS, or rather was diagnosed with it nearly 10 years ago, and

have noticed some unusual things going on. Perhaps they've been

happening for a while and I just wasn't aware of them. The most

significant is the change in my tongue which seems to have a peeled

looked to the right side of it. I was taking supplements that I

thought would help with the PCOS but since I've run out, the peeling

has decreased and is now about the size of a dime on the right side of

my tongue. Maybe the supplement was making things worse?

I was researching the internet and based on my own amateur

observations, my tongue seems to be reflecting that I have a Yin

deficiency. I've been looking into yin foods so I can increase those

and will look for a TCM practitioner to visit in the near future.

I decided to go this route instead of conventional Western medicine

but the medicines prescribed in the past made me worse instead of better.

I'm new to TCM but I am starting to read more about it and study it to

learn more everyday.

Thank you again,

Linda

Linda:

It's a good idea to visit a practitioner soon.

Last year I helped a woman with PCOS, who had the

condition for ten years. I found some good herbal

remedies and she took them every evening.

She later went for an ultrasound, and the doctor said

that she had a serious problem, but couldn't tell how

serious.

When she finally had surgery to remove the cysts,

doctors found 14 of them, one of them quite large.

At best, the surgeon said that the herbs I gave the

woman held the growth of the cysts in check, but since

she had them longer than a decade, the herbs could not

have eliminated them. We did not do acupuncture,

however, so it is difficult to say whether herbs and

acupuncture would have worked better.

Kind regards, Jack

If you need help finding a practitioner I would be glad to help you if

you just want to send me your zip code. If you want to you can try

these search engines, or if you can't get them to work, I would be

glad to help you find something. All I would need is your zip. You

can contact me by e-mail through here. If you look off to the right

and see my user name right below will be a link to send e-mail. Of

course I would keep the info to myself.
