I have a friend who is trying to quit smoking and is having a hard time. I've

never smoked so I don't know how to help her. I was wondering if anybody here

has quit and are there any tips I could give her. Is there a herb or substance

that will neutralize the nicotine?

Thanks, Marcia

The best thing to do is just quit, and not to let your self even think about smoking or you will buy and smoke again. I did it on the last day of October. The key is to not think about it for one second. Richard

Hi Marcia.

I have heard that a tincture made with Catnip herb and green oats, that means when the oat plant is green will help someone give up smoking, i know this is a hear say but it's worth a try.

Hope this can help your friend.

Hugs Mary.

When I quit about 17 years ago I just threw the carton away and did not have another one and I had smoked for more years than I can even remember. I had friends that tried the patch and all kinds of other crap and they were all smoking. I think the only way is to just stop. You keep busy. I think what makes it hard is focusing on it. I have tried a cigarette a couple of times since then and they taste like crap. It is just like changing ones diet. I never thought I would turn meat away, but I did that on Friday. I had a nice steak that was being served at work and I thought ok, I will have it, because I do not think you should deny yourself every single thing you want. I had a couple of bites of it and that was it I didn't want any more. However I think had I not gotten it I might have felt

like I was really missing out on something. And I have only been at this 'alternative methods' for a few months.I guess different methods might work for different people. I wish the best. It is sure an $$ habit today. I can think of better things to spend money on:-)Blessings,Barbara N GermanyBarbara N Germany--- On Sat, 12/19/09, rleeh2001 <rleeh2001 wrote:rleeh2001 <rleeh2001Re: Quitting smokingoleander soup Date: Saturday, December 19, 2009, 11:54 PM

I don't know about supplements, but my husband quit in 1992, and used the patch.

After 22 years of smoking (he was in the Navy), he felt that he couldn't quit

immediately. He used the patch - the highest dose for one month, the middle

dose for one month, and the lowest dose for two months - and successfully quit

smoking.

He does say, however, that (in his opinion) the only people who successfully

quit smoking are those who really want to quit, and are ready to do so at that

time.

It is easy to quit smoking---I did it half dozen times! One

has to make the decision and stick to it. I quit the last time 25

years ago after reviewing the incidence of cancers/heart disease among smokers

and saw that after age 40 the incidence rate went exponential compared to

non-smokers. There is no question that it will kill you one way or the

other and few people I ever knew who smoked heavily lived past 60 years.

I quit cold turkey. I did drink some bicarbonate water 3

or 4 times a day and that seemed to help. After about 10 days cigarettes

start to stink and taste awful (just one puff) and thereafter you cannot stand

to be around them. There is nothing worse than a reformed smoker, but you

seem to have an immune response to them and truly cannot be around the smell----most

everyone who has quit will relate that phenomenon.

I question how I could have done something so stupid for so

long.
