I'm using the Oleander Soup I made for myself, and have had no problems at all

with it. I love this stuff!

But on involved with a breast cancer discussion group and a couple of the women

there tried the OPC (Sutherlandia) in the past, had diarrhea and stopped taking

it. Now, there's a new person on the list who's starting with the new version

OPC, and her ND is overseeing her use.

My question is, can anyone respond regards the diarrhea with the Sutherlandia

OPC and offer any suggestions I might take back to the other group? They said

taking it with food or without made no difference. Has anyone else here

overcome this particular issue?

Hi D'Ann,Diarrhea is a common side effect. When this happens, they should reduce the dosage and wait for symptoms to abate. Then, increase the dosage slowly watching out for symptoms. Sometimes it takes the body a little while to become acclimated to Oleander. It is best to take it with meals. Tell them not to give up, the diarrhea will pass. oleander soup , "D Ann" <angelport wrote:>> I'm using the Oleander Soup I made for myself, and have had no problems at all with it. D Ann: I could take 3 of the Sutherlandia pills (from

South Africa) per day after meals with no problem, but when I tried to take the

extract made in the U. S. I had to reduce the dose to 2 pills after breakfast

otherwise I would wake at 2-3 AM up with severe diarrhea. I am a big guy,

so smaller folks might be affected more strongly.

Both the Sutherlandia OPC and the Rose Laurel Plus are made under my direction by the same pharmaceutical company in South Africa. The only difference is that the RLP capsules contain 100mg oleander concentrate whereas the S/OPC capsules contain 66mg. It is thus to be expected that if one takes the same dosage of both capsules, the RLP ones are more likely to lead to diarrhea.

Most people can tolerate roughly 200mg per day of the actual concentrated oleander powder relatively easily. Diarrhea symptoms can start above this level but the body gets used to that level in about 5 - 8 days. Some people can go as high as 1000mg per day without a problem. It is very much an individual tolerance but the body adjusts fairly rapidly to higher dosages.
