Oleander / chemo drug interaction

Hi Everyone -- Several weeks (months?) ago there was a short discussion on some

group (and I think it was this one) about chemotherapy drugs and whether they

could be used with oleander. The general response was that if the drug ACTED as

an immune suppressor then it ought not to be used with oleander, but if the

immune suppressant was a side effect of the drug then it would be OK. Was that

this group? My doctor just changed chemo drugs from Gemzar to Carboplatin or

Cysplatin (I forget which) and I don't know whether I should refuse the chemo or

go for it. I'll take it if it doesn't interfere with oleander, but not if it

does. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance for any answers or advice. Jan

Hi Jan, I believe the discussion was with regard to herbs. Oleander potentiates chemo and lessens to minimizes the side effects. However, it does not eliminate hair loss with Cysplatin.oleander soup , "waikikilights" <waikikilights wrote:>> Hi Everyone -- Several weeks (months?) ago there was a short discussion on some group (and I think it was this one) about chemotherapy drugs and whether they could be used with oleander. Yea, but I'm getting used to being bald -- and it seems to entertain little kids and absolutely hypnotize babies. Silver linings to every cloud, huh? Thanks for your response. Jan--- On Tue, 11/24/09, M <luellamay129 wrote:

Jan -

As far as I know oleander can be used with virtually all chemo agents; however, when the chemo agent's main course of action is through being an immune or cellular activity suppressor the oleander may be working against the chemo and cancer at the same time. Personally, I do not favor the approach of lowering cellular activity or immune activity to try to kill the cancer while hoping that the overall cellular damage throughout the body and overall lowered immune system does not result in more harm than benefits (which is far too often the case). That is why I am not thrilled with Protocel, since it works by lowering cellular activity - and I personally would not forgo oleander for any chemo agent.

In some late stage/agressive cancers, lowering cellular activity to kill off the cancer via the cesium chloride protocol might be a good way to go initially in order to buy a bit of time, since oleander does not work overnight. From what I understand, cesium chloride is more selective than most chemo agents.

All the best,
