Guest guest
I have found that spirulina works for me. Spirulina is high in iron, has a natural appetite suppressant and it also has the B-complex vitamins needed for depression. The one that works best for me is the hawaiian spirulina. You can find it in any healthfood store or Whole Foods Market. herbal remedies , " Heather " <hjzworley@s...> wrote: > > > Hi, > > I have heard a lot about how vitamin C helps with sugar cravings and > is just good for you all around....Just thought I would get your > opinions on it before I go out an buy it. Guest guest
This is correct Heather. However, you can make your vit C supplement easily yourself! Get some organic oranges, take off the peel, cut the peel into little strips, dry them out (might take 2-3 days), and then grind them up really fine into a powder. One tbs per day is all the Vit C you'll need :-) BTW, this is Doc's recipe. love Lisa - Heather herbal remedies Wednesday, February 23, 2005 1:41 AM Herbal Remedies - Vitamin CHi,I have heard a lot about how vitamin C helps with sugar cravings and is just good for you all around....Just thought I would get your opinions on it before I go out an buy it. Guest guest
Heather, This is probably more than you needed to know, but I've never met anyone who had " sugar cravings " that a simple supplement solved the issue for them. Frequently, this is a systemic problem and very often with emotional and stress underpinnings - in our society, no wonder. You may already eat right and exercise. I don't know your situation. I didn't at first ... in case you don't, here is what I did to break the cycle. In my personal experience (I am still susceptible to the sugar cycle (even honey and the like) and have 20 pounds yet to lose - but, I've lost 50!) ... eating sugar (and processed foods) keeps me from wanting " real " food - I only want the sugar! The sugar cycle is contributes to depression and depleted energy, as you know. The C will help, but when I catch myself in the sugar cycle I break it by transitioning off the sugar with nuts and fruits, almond butter and apples, etc. I make up food in advance - a large pot of soup and have salad makings ready, sprouted grain muffins (or something) sweetened with fruit rather than sugar. After a few days, cut out the nuts and muffins and transition to just protein and veggies. If you eat meat - have it only with veggies (no pasta, potatoes, etc.) and if you want a baked potato only eat it with veggies. After a week or two when you feel the cravings have subsided, integrate fruits back into your diet. Read about food combining and make sure you are getting fresh fruits and veggies - raw or lightly steamed. Eat small amounts every 3 hours. Never allow yourself to get " beyond " hungry. This helps keep your insulin stable. Drink lots of water (at least 8-8 oz glasses or 2 litres/day - you can work up to it and always carry a water bottle with you wherever you go - distilled or pure, never tap water) When/if you feel a craving, then drink a cup of strong herbal tea sweetened with stevia (stevia won't promote the cravings as it doesn't react affet your insulin levels). If you don't exercise, then maybe try a 5 minute walk every day to get into the habit (don't expect you'll embrace a one hour workout immediately - ha!) or go for a stroll outside and connect with the earth to help you center and ground. After a few days, you will begin to feel better ... but, you need to keep this up. Read the book " Sugar Blues " or something similar. Do research on what sugar and insulin fluctuations do to your organs - choose health over weight loss and it will be easier to continue choosing health. Consequently, you will lose weight. Education is very important. Make sure you are supporting your body with good nutritional supplements (I highly recommend Doc's Total Nutritional Formula). Then plan a cleansing program. I have yet to do Doc's recommended cleanse (although I'm almost ready to start), but I've done other cleanses (Master Cleanse, etc.) It is important to cleanse so your body will de-clog, balance, and work properly. This helps the cravings, the depression, and energy levels - the whole body. Dealing with the environment (home, family, and office) side of this takes planning. There are some really good energy bars and such that I don't normally recommend as a staple, but can come to your rescue when everyone is downing cake at the office party. Educate and be prepared and you can do it. Luckily, I work from home and so I don't buy anything I can't eat/drink. Hope you feel better soon. Guest guest
Hi Heather, Refined carbs are evil and will make you crave more and more of them. Start cutting those out of your diet and add in whole grains (preferably sprouted, like Ezekiel bread, sprouted nuts and beans, etc). Astragulus is exceptionally good at helping to regulate blood sugar which might help with your sugar cravings as well. Doc's Total Nutrition formula has both spirulina and astragulus in it, and lots of other really good things. Your body is probably needing other vitamins and nutrition as well (thus contributing to the depression) and the Total Nutrition is excellent for this. The recipe is in the files. Take a look at it! Google is your friend: " 748,000 for Ester-C " I read some of these and my take is that the C is buffered by binding it to a calcium molecule. It would be useful if regular C caused stomach acidity. I always take time-release C in large doses, 6000 per day, 2000 per meal. Read some of the 748,000 articles and maybe search on time-release vitamin C as well. The main hit on bioavailability is that in a large dose it goes out the back end almost immediately unless it is somehow slowed down. Time release does that, the Ester-binding might do that as well. It might be just a catchy name for the same thing. Regards, Pete

I prefer a mix of mineral ascorbates that include potassium, selenium, magnesium, calcium, zinc. Not only are they buffered, absorb well, and bring some minerals into the body, but they are much cheaper than straight Ester C. I use Alacer Corps, Super Gram III. It is relatively cheap, has the full assortment of mineral ascorbates and includes bioflavonoids and B vitamins. According to the bottle, it is also time released. Guest guest
Dear Paula, Yes! Non organic oranges or any non organic fruits are usually loaded full of pesticides = very unhealthy. These pesticides overtax the Liver and over a period of time bring about a general debility from doing so. In some research, it made the cancer worse and increased tumor growth, so I am not a proponent of high C levels.< I have found that if you criticize Pauling much, somebody will go wacko on you. I find plenty to criticize, myself. First, let's remember that the medical definition of Vitamin C is Ascorbic Acid, but I will stop short at proclaiming it to be specifically L-Ascorbic Acid. For those that don't know, the L is important as that molecule was proven to be the one, out of four variants of the molecule, to cure scurvy. Pauling was not only famous for pushing Vitamin C, he was famous for pushing the cheapest version of it. Again, I'm not too sure if he pushed the L molecule specifically, but in any case he pushed the cheapest means of getting it. Pauling was apparently a very classical chemical reductionist in his thinking. Once a reductionist isolates the so called active ingredient, he ignores any other aspect of the substance. Cheap Ascorbic Acid nearly stopped me from breathing one time ,and I came to learn that it was the corn sourcing of it that did that to me. I won't touch any known corn-sourced C since, even though I have cured that allergy. I said that to say this: I can certainly believe that cheap Ascorbic Acid could actually feed cancer or even " cause " it. Livon Liposomal C, and the home made version that many of us are making per Brooks Bradley's instructions, is actually Sodium Ascorbate which is supposed to be on the order of 3000% more assimilible than pure AA. That simply means that the body welcomes it much more readily than AA. I can't speak for Livon or for anyone else, but all my homemade Lipo-C is made with L-AA from the Vitamin C Foundation because of its purity. I recently bought the " Survivalist Case " . No real money savings except for shipping, in the short term, but since it comes from Europe, because the good stuff is either unavailable or too expensive here, I figured the price will only go up and the availability will only go down, possibly in the near future. Also, by taking the Liposomal product, we are supposedly getting far more benefit without mega doses. The experience of both my wife and myself seems to bear that out. Guest guest
Daddybob, May I ask why you are taking the L AA? Thanks. Guest guest
Bob Banever wrote: >May I ask why you are taking the L AA?< We first got serious about Vitamin C when our youngest daughter caught Lyme or STARI and we first used the Salt/C treatment on her. We used the VCF product shortly after starting her treatment because we found out that the cheap AA we had did the same thing to her that it did to me, made her feel awful. The VCF product actually made her feel good. From that point on we kept it around and took it mostly occasionally. When my wife's cancer scare erupted, she began taking more of it, but when Brooks Bradley came out with his info on Liposomal C, we got busy procuring the Livon product and we also got busy experimenting with the homemade Lipo. Remember tat the Livon product is actually sodium Ascorbate and that we have now changed the homemade Lipo-C to be sodium ascorbate also, per Brooks' later advice. Still, I want to be sure that the original AA in my mix starts as L-AA, and VCF is the most dependable source of that. All you do is combine L-AA with Baking soda to make Sodium Ascorbate. Shortly after starting all this Lipo-C, my wife had a sudden improvement in two things on her skin that had troubled us for quite some time. That's when we realized that both places must have been an eruption/manifestation of cancer. Both places continue to improve. As for me, taking Lipo-C greatly improves my healing and shortens my healing time when I re-injure my badly damaged back muscles, as I seem to do with disturbing regularity. I have finally hit on the combination of Lipo-C and Colostrum, and rest of course, to quickly heal that problem. DaddyBob
