Guest guest
Hi. I'm very new to this forum. My father is fighting with stomach cancer metastasized to liver for the last 2 years. He had conventional treatments (surgeries and chemotherapy) including the total gastrectomy. He had a terrible time with 5-FU based (Japanese version) chemotherapy pills and now weighs only 92 lb (he lost about 40 lb). Despite of all these harsh treatments, his liver is healthy, and his white blood cell count is good. He recently started Sutherlandia OPC along with some other supplements including Curcumin, Black seed oil, pancreatic enzyme, and iodine (not high dosage). He was already on vitamins, LDN, alpha lipoic acid, NAC, milk thistle, and good probiotic. About 5 days after he started to take Sutherlandia OPC (he was taking 2 teaspoon of liquid form a day), he started to develop skin rashes on his buttock, face and one of his arms. The ones on his buttock was very itchy, and the itch went away when he took antihistamine, but the rash spread further, and he started to feel more burning pain around the rash. Because of the pain and anxiety, he said he hasn't been able to sleep very much. He feels very tired and lost his appetite. He stopped taking all the supplements he recently started to take including Sutherlandia OPC. Are these rashes and the associated symptoms side effects of Sutherlandia OPC? Are these die-off reactions? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with this situation? Does he have to give up on taking Sutherlandia OPC? I would appreciate any help. Guest guest
mind, It sounds like he's developed shingles or herpes zoster. This could be a release from his cancer. Take colloidal silver (about 2oz) a day. He can also apply the silver topically. This should help. Good luck. Guest guest
Hi Bob, Thank you so much for your reply. I thought about shingles. My father lives in Japan, and I live in the US and send all the supplements to him from the US. So, I haven't seen the rashes, and it is hard for me to determine what they are. He is convinced that it is an allergic reaction or a side effect from Sutherlandia OPC. He went to see a family doctor and convinced the doctor that the rashes were caused by the " strong herb from South Africa " . He got an allergy shot, topical ointment, and oral allergy medications from the doctor, but nothing seems to helping him for the pain. He is only slightly feverish. My mother thinks that the rashes are not spreading any more and started to heal, and I'm hoping that is the case. Unfortunately, he doesn't have colloidal silver in his hands, and I need to order it for him, and it will take about 4-5 days for him to get it. If anyone has any other suggestions on how to ease his symptoms, I would really appreciate it. I was freaking out from this incident because he is taking a blood test next week. Depending on the results of cancer markers, etc., his oncologist wants to start the chemotherapy again (hepatic arterial infusion of Camptosar, which is really nasty to the immune system). He was doing so well until the beginning of the last week, and we are all hoping that the Sutherlandia OPC and new supplements will improve the blood test results so that he doesn't have to go through the chemotherapy again. Now I'm not sure if I can convince my father to take Sutherlandia OPC again after the rashes heal. Again, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Guest guest
Hi Tamaki, I think the best alternative would be to email Marc Swanepoel at marcswan. He will be able to tell you if, in fact, the rash was caused by Sutherlandia OPC and if by chance, this was the cause, he will give you the proper advice as to what your father should do. Ruling out Sutherlandia OPC as the cause will hopefully ease your father's mind and he will resume taking it. Guest guest
Tamaki, Have him take the new 100% oleander capsules from Utiopia Silver instead of the SutherlandiaOPC. Guest guest
The symptoms you describe sound like shingles to me too. The normal side effect of the S/OPC that some people experience is diarrhea but I have not had any feedback of a rash as you describe it. The 2 teaspoons your dad took is a low dosage and should definitely not produce such severe symptoms. If your dad had been allergic to the S/OPC, the symptoms would have appeared earlier than 5 days into the treatment. That said, you should be aware that if a person uses many supplements at the same time, some of them IN COMBINATION, may cause symptoms of an over stimulated immune system, LDN, for example, stimulates the immune system (http://www.webspawner.com/users/sideeffectsofldn/index.html) and so does S/OPC. The combination of these two alone could set off some immune problems but I doubt again that it would have taken 5 days to appear. LDN by itself has been known to cause a rash after continuous use for a few months (http://www.dailystrength.org/c/Multiple-Sclerosis-MS/forum/Treatments/5734089-ldn-low-dose-naltrexone-skin). Even Alpha Lipoic Acid can, in rare cases, cause a skin rash. I suggest your dad tries to take 1 teaspoon of the S/OPC for a week to see if the rash comes back. If not, he can increase it to 2 or 3 teaspoons per day. During this period, he should go without the LDN. Guest guest
I just wanted to thank you for those who gave me suggestions. The rashes were indeed shingles. His pain didn't go away after seeing his family doctor and stopping S/OPC for several days, and he finally went to see a dermatologist. Since then, he has been on antiviral medications and applying colloidal silver salve on the rashes. His rashes are healing very quickly, his pain is almost gone, and his energy and appetite are back. He also started one teaspoon dose of S/OPC, and I will ask him to gradually increase the dosage. I just hope his test results will come back with good numbers, and his doctor won't force him to have chemotherapy. Tamaki
Guest guest
Hi Tamaki, I am glad the source of the rash was resolved. First of all, a doctor cannot force anyone to have chemo. One's health decisions is an individual choice and responsibility. However, they can be very persuasive into talking someone into chemo treatments. Many times they use psychological fear tacticts that too many times, result in the patient deciding to undergo these treatments. Tell him to keep in mind that on the average it takes two to three months to see any types of results taking Sutherlandia OPC. However, that does not mean it is not working. So he should not be alarmed if he does not see results right away. He should also be following the rest of the Natural Anti-Cancer Protocol . Colloidal silver will also be very beneficial in addressing the shingles. Utopia Silver does ship overseas and this is the colloidal silver that I would recommend. It is the highest quality. Until the shingles disappear, he should drink at least two ounces a day. It works better than any antibiotic available. But his doctor is considered to be one of the best gastric oncologists in Japan, and it is very difficult for my parents to say no to him (Japanese are generally very conforming and respectful in nature). After all, the doctor has treated thousands of patients (successfully or not) before, and I have no experience, although I feel I know a lot more about recent advancement in cancer treatments from reading many articles on the Internet. My dad has to get better with alternative treatments before he really believes in them. I can see he is feeling much better with supplements I'm sending and is really hoping that they will work for his cancer. > Colloidal silver will also be very beneficial in addressing the > shingles. I looked into Utopia Silver, but their international shipping cost was very high, and they said that it will take 2-6 weeks for delivery. I couldn't wait for that long and had to order other colloidal silver product from iherb. My dad has been taking many supplements the Natural Anti-Cancer Protocol recommends. He eats healthy food with a lot of fruits and vegetables, but because he has no stomach and has weight issues, it is difficult to restrict his diet too much (he still relies on liquid nutrition). Thanks again for all the suggestions. Tamaki
