Juicing greens (goitrogens)

In my opinion, lightly steamed broccoli might be advisable, but I think the issue of goitrogens has been over-played and likely normally results only in those with mineral and vitamin deficiencies and/or other underlying problems.

Broccoli has been aptly described as the most medicinally valuable of all vegetables, and I have seen it opined that if broccoli were a patentable drug it would be considered one of the most potent ones. Since it isn't a patentable drug and is in fact an option to patentable drugs, it is not surprising to see some mainstream sources caution against its use.

Let's look at the so-called goitrogens:

Many goitrogens are generally members of the brassica family. These include:

BroccoliCauliflowerBrussel SproutsCabbageMustardKaleTurnipsRape seed (Canola Oil)

Other goitrogens include:

SoyPine nutsMilletPeanuts

Now, besides GMO canola and GMO or unfermented soy, and perhaps peanuts for some people, just look at how valuable those other foods are for health in general and fighting cancer specifically. I would not dream of excluding cruciferous vegetables!

I think that people who make sure they get optimum amounts of all their minerals (including trace minerals), vitamins, and other essential nutrients, and make sure they take a bit of extra copper and iodine if they have thryoid/goiter concerns, should have no worries over consuming the healthy "goitrogens" in the list above in whatever form.

All the best,
