Guest guest
Hello everyone, First let me say thank you all for the kind words and prayers for us. They mean a lot to me, and I appreciate them all. I just checked back in on the forum tonight and saw someone had asked what treatments Audrey had had from surgeons and oncology. She had a mastectomy to begin with, but never considered chemotherapy or radiation. She made the decision to go with alternative methods, and I tried to get behind her and help the best I could. People have told me to try not to second guess our decisions, and I can see how that would be wise, but it is about impossible for me. I try not to dwell on these things too much, but I have a friend whose wife also had breast cancer , but went the traditional route. She is still alive and doing O.K. My sister-in-laws sister went traditional as well, and is still alive years later. My father was diagnosed with kidney cancer in February, and had his kidney taken out. While he was recuperating from that operation , I talked my parents into trying the Henderson protocol for some small mets in his lungs(unfortunately kidney cancer often goes undetected until it has already metastisized). The mets continued to grow on the Henderson treatment. When he had recuperated from the operation, he started Sutent, which is a new (maybe 3 or 4 years old now) " targeted " chemo drug which is not supposed to harm healthy cells as badly. He has been on that for 3 months now and is doing well, although not without side effects. Sutent has been a great improvement for kidney cancer victims, kidney cancer was very quick to kill in the past. The mets are now stable. What I am saying is that I do not know what would have been best. People who go the traditional routes die sometimes too. Audreys quality of life was pretty good, except for three months last winter and the last three months. For a long time this spring she was doing really well, and I was a believer in alternatives. I still think something she was doing worked, but I dont know exactly what it was. I wish I could be more help, but all I could really do was try to post what we were doing. I will try to see if anyone posts any more questions for me, but I don't know what more I can say. My best wishes to you all, Al
Guest guest
Al, You supported Audrey in her choice of treatment. That is the most wonderful thing any one person can do for another. My grandmother, grandfather, and favorite uncle were all diagnosed with different forms of cancer, and all died within a year of their diagnosis. Each did conventional treatment, and none died of their cancer. My grandmother died of a chemotherapy-induced stroke, my grandfather died of stress-induced congestive heart failure from finding out about the cancer, and my uncle died of a heart attack. You can't second guess yourself. My heart hurts for you. I can feel your sadness in your words. Just know that you did what Audrey wanted you to do, and that means more than anything. Bless your heart.
