How do you make tinctures and what is the advantage? Thanks, Robyn____________ _________ _________ __Renee <gaiacita (AT) gmail (DOT) com>oleander soupFriday, September 4, 2009 4:47:43 AM Re-cayenne pepperoleander soup, David mung <davidmungdol@ ...> wrote:>> I am wanting to make a cilantro tincture. I have never made a tincturebefore. My question is do you HAVE to strain it when it's done? You never have to strain

any tincture. Straining is because some tincturesare made with enough herb to get really thick and so hard to swallow. Justabout all my tinctures are left with the herb in for a year or more and Ijust take the top clear liquid off as needed. When I've finally reacheddown to where there's no more clear liquid on top, then I may strain out acup or two. Sometimes I will strain the whole batch, depending on how Ifeel at the time. :-) But making a tincture of something like cilantro--youd never "have" to strain, as the cilantro would be pretty well chopped upfrom the blender to begin with. So spooning out some of the thickcilantro/alcohol mix would kind of be like having an alcoholic pesto. LolBut no--you certainly don't have to strain. Of course, there are some herbs you wouldn't eat--the woody roots of certainherbs, etc. But if you normally would eat it anyway--as you would incilantro, or hot

peppers, or chickweed--you can "eat" a tincture.Samala,Renee

if you look in the archives for my past posts all the info is there formaking your own tinctures. The advantages are many, depending on what youwish to do. mostly they are medicinal, though you can certainly makecertain tinctures for flavoring food--such as the cayenne on, rosemary, cilantro. Mostly though, people go to the trouble of making tinctures formedicinal purposes. if you don't know enough about herbs to use themmedicinally, don't bother with making a tincture. unless you have a largeamount of cooking herbs and you wish to make a tincture to use for spicingfoods so that you don't have to can or freeze the herbs.samala,ReneeOn Fri, Sep 4, 2009 at 10:19 AM, robyn howell <robynehowell@ >wrote:

Renee, do you have a specific link listing some basic formats for making herbal/spice tinctures? It would be much appreciated if there is a particular source or formula one could refer to. Thanking you ahead. No, sorry. All tinctures are made basically the same. Throw your herb intoa blender, cover with vodka or the liquor of your choicfe, blend, pour intoa jar and top with more liquor till the herb is covered by about an inch.Let it sit at least 2 weeks--shaking daily. if you let it sit longer youdon't have to shake it, but shaking is always better. maybe shake it forthe first 2 weeks and then let it sit for however long you want. Keep inthe dark--at least out of direct sunlight.the top clear liquid will be very flavorful and you can use this is cookingif you wish.samala,ReneeOn Fri, Sep 4, 2009 at 11:01 AM, Lisa Tovar <tov_legsec >

I am so sorry to hear about your lost, there is no word I can use to really reconfort you in a situation like that; but stay with us because we are learning from each other and it's good to have a family like ours. Caring and loving each other. May the Lord bless you. Marie____________ _________ _________ __livingsupergreen <livingsupergreen@ >oleander soupMonday, August 31, 2009 8:58:48 PM Bad news about Audrey Hello

everyone, I wish I did not have to post this, but my wife Audrey passed away last Sunday. I posted some this spring about how well she was doing if anyone wants to look them up. Once she started downhill nothing we did worked. The cesium seemed to have no effect the second time. Larry from essense-of-life says we should have stayed on cesium the first time, that there is not a "cesium limit", that you lower the dose after a while. So I will never know if that would have worked or not. I hate to be a bad testimony, nothing would have made me happier thanto be a "success story", but I wanted to share what happened. The oleander protocol did not work for us. She had problems with diarrhea the whole time she was taking it, to some extent. So maybe if we had gotten that under control the oleander would have had a chance to work better? One thing I regret is not working more on the iodine issue. I was confused about the quantities and the different

types of iodine, so Audrey was taking some, but probably not enough. Again, I will never know. This breaks my heart, she was a wonderful wife and mom, and only fifty-four years old. Best wishes to you all, sincerely, Al
