Guest guest
Someone that I know was treated for two cancers. When they originally found the colon cancer in her two years ago it had no metastases. the operation was done, and then a year later the colon was still clean but the liver had metastases that came from the colon. So the metastases were resected and THEN the chemo (oxaliplatin/5FU/leucovorin) was given for 12 rounds. About two to three months(4-6 rounds) into the chemo she was told she has a small spot on her liver (1.5 cm by 1.5 cm). Six more rounds of chemo was done. then about 60 days after the cehmo was done, a PET SCAN SHOWS THE FOLLOWING: clean liver (the spot that was there has vanished) clean colon clean everything ONE enlarged lymph node in the chest, toward the center of it, that is 1 inch by 1 centimeter. The doc says it could just be some simple inflammation and tells her that it couldn't have spread as metastases. (that's what he says). The pporta cath is in the same general area of the chest as the PET scan says the enlarged lymph node might be. Doc says that he wants to do a biopsy to rule out cancer though he doubts it's cancer and thinks that it might be just some inflammation causing the lymph node to have that slight swelling. Questions: Could a porta-cath cause that kind of swelling after chemo? What good is a biopsy if it can spread disease? I'm perplexed because both of the originally involved organs are free of disease. I dread to think that this could be lymphoma. CEA level is 3.1 last time it was checked which was a month ago. colonoscopy done a week ago is normal. PET scan results described above. Any info is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance. Guest guest
Hi Richard It is very normal to have a clean scan after chemo. It is called a good response and most patients “think” they are cured. However, I would HIGHLY urge that she get on a cancer fighting natural protocol because more times than not, with the use of chemotherapy/radiation, the cancer will return and usually with a vengeance meaning a stronger chemo/radiation will be suggested. Conventional medicine does not disclose that a biopsy can seed cancer cells even though they understand that this is a possibility. Just as they don’t disclose that chemotherapy/radiation can create a hospitable environment for cancer. As far as the dangers of biopsy, it’s a “sometime we have to sacrifice safety in order to know what is going on.” (My own conventional doc told me this when I refused to monitor my progress with CT scans. Instead we used MRI even though he was against it, that is, until the radiologist told him that it could be monitored very effectively with MRI.) If there is a suspicious mass then the FDA protocol is to do a biopsy. The doc is just following government protocol and covering himself so that he doesn’t get sued. The port could cause inflammation; however, I’m not sure how often this occurs. Remember that no lab test or scan is perfect and I hope she doesn’t let her guard down because of one “clean” scan. Again, I would suggest getting on a natural protocol for cancer and then do another scan in 3-6 months rather than take a chance on seeding. Just what I would do. Guest guest
Richard,I think that Dr. Loreta gave you a very good reply.I keep myself silent for a very long time, but I decided to tell you my personal experience(my husband s experience). On July 2008 the PET scan showed no cancer in his body and the CEA was 1,1.We thought that he was cured... Unfortunately on April 2009 the cancer returned with a CEA 45 and on July 2009 the CEA was 214.The tumor in his liver(metastasis from colon cancer) has a size 14 cm.The cancer seemed to be very aggresive this time. The colonoscopy is clear. As a doctor explained to us, after chemo, the cells have low metabolic activity(if this the right term) and it is usual for the PET scan to show no cancer. So, I am telling to you, that you can not calm. As Dr. Loreta said to you, you should follow a complete protocol, otherwise it is possible that cancer may return.Follow a natural protocol NOW that you have time( to do it).RegardsEfi--- Óôéò Ôñßô., 01/09/09, ï/ç Richard Pikman <asfc07078 Ýãñáøå:Áðü: Richard Pikman <asfc07078ÈÝìá: A question about lymph node...Ðñïò: oleander soup Çìåñïìçíßá: Ôñßôç, 1 ÓåðôÝìâñéïò 2009, 2:56 Someone that I know was treated for two cancers.
