Cardiac Glycosides in oleander

Oleander is toxic because of the cardiac glycosides (especially oleandrin) that it contains. Fortunately, these glycosides are not water soluble and that is why a water extract, if filtered properly, is not poisonous. Extremely fine particles can still go through any filtering process and there will always be residues of the cardiac glycosides however many times one filters. The amounts, however, will be about one fortieth of that used by doctors for heart patients. It should thus pose no problem AND the minute quantities of remaining cardiac glycosides have been shown to have an anti-cancer action. The Sutherlandia OPC is filtered very thoroughly at the pharmaceutical company where it is produced and the blood thinning properties are thus very slight.

Re: New here looking for answers on OCC & OS etc

Hi Bobby,

I believe that it is safe. According to Marc Swanepoel, the cardiac glycosides have been filtered out in the making of Sutherladia OPC, making it perfectly safe to take with blood thinners and heart medications.

Marc, please correct me if I am mistaken.
