Hi, Tony;

With 30 years of low back pain, I think I can something to the discussion. For

pain, while my back was in spasm, I just used moist heat, with a hydroculator,

but I bet an fir sauna would help a lot, too. As soon as I began to get some

mobility, I began twisting (sitting in an armchair, and slowly pulling with your

arms around the back) and stretching the hamstring (trying to touch my toes).

These 2 movements, and an exercise called dead bugs, that I found about 10 years

ago, will prevent further injury if I do them regularly.

The dead bug: lie on your back, pressing your spine to the mat, lift your left

arm (above your head) and leg (bent at the knee) at the same time, then

alternate with the right side. Repeat as many times as comfortable in 3 sets.

This really strengthens the abs with NO strain on the low back.

Good luck,

Ted
