The cardiovascular fitness level of cancer survivors is not affected by

many standard cancer therapies, say researchers from Georgetown

University Medical Cancer. That is the finding of a new observational

study to be presented today at the American College of Sports Medicine

in Seattle."We know physical activity is a critical component

of cancer survivorship, both during and after cancer treatment," says

Jennifer LeMoine, PhD, a post-doctoral research fellow with training in

exercise physiology at GUMC's Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. "In

Dr. Bello,

This article is misleading at best and is disengenuous. Heart muscle can be damaged by several chemotheraputic medicines as can the vascular system through which these chemicals run. Sure there are some that may not damage these tissues, but they are only part of the regimen. The use of strong anti-oxidants helps protect some of these cells from oxidative damage during therapy.

My thoughts :

This a worthless study a piece of PR for the cancer Industry.

From the News release of GeorgesTown Medical center;

http://explore.georgetown.edu/news/?ID=42131 & PageTemplateID=295

I read : " For the study, the researchers conducted a chart review of 49 women

who attended a physician-directed fitness clinic for cancer survivors, founded

and run by Priscilla Furth, MD, the study's co-author. "

They choose 49 women attending a " physician-directed fitness clinic " here we

have a bias in the choice of the patients taking them in a fitness clinic and

probably well trained to pass the test.

Priscillia Furth MD, is a physician-scientist and professor of oncology. not a

cardiologist. She was never involve in research on cardiology

The so called test was a " new test "

I read

" Fitness assessments were conducted using a three-minute step test during a

clinic visit "

A worthless 3 minutes step test that is not an assessment of your heart

function and integrity. I am not an MD but I guess you need a little bit more

than 3 minutes and few steps to assess the damage done to the heart muscle by

radiations and chemo.

I read : " 67 percent reported being physically active "

# another bias and a very picky choice to a research !!

I read : 71 percent) of the participants completed the step test. "

WHICH ONE / THE FITTEST ONE /

THEN COME THE LIES :

I read " " What's really exciting to us was that we found that cardiovascular

fitness was not affected by the expected culprits -- cancer treatment, type,

duration or time since treatment, " LeMoine explains. "

WE HAVE NO IDEA OF WHICH TREATMENT, FOR WHIcH CANCER, AND FOR HOW LONG PATIENTS

HAD BEEN TREATED PRIOR THE THE 3 MINUTES TEST.

I can 't even call this a research.. I have no name for this type of literature.

later the researcher declare

" : That isn't to say there aren't side-effects of some treatments that may

hinder physical activity, but when it comes to actual cardiovascular fitness as

measured in our clinic, many of the standard treatments didn't have a role. "

POUNDER the style of this sentence..
