Guest guest
Greetings! I am the co-author -- with Dr Thomas Zhang, a doctor of TCM -- of an annual almanac. Aside from weather (and other) predictions (the system is described in the Yellow Emperor's Canon--nothing to do with the Tong Shu), the almanac contains a lot of health information based on the roots of TCM. This deals with the root causes of disease (weather/climate), the natural environment, eating according to the seasons and the prevention of illness through appropriate nutrition. I'm looking forward to sharing what I know and learning more about TCM, of which I know very little (I couldn't tell a zang fu organ from a church organ!). All the best-- Ariel
Guest guest
Welcome, Ariel: That sounds like a great book. Can you tell the name of the system? Would it be Zi Wu Liu Zhu or Yun Qi? Guest guest
Ariel: I'm familiar with Yun Qi, have got several books on the subject. Am quite curious about the other style you teach. I teach online courses about Qi Men Dun Jia, specifically medical divination with Qi Men Dun Jia, and have just finished an advanced book on that subject. There is a Beijing professor of medicine, Yang Li, who has written about all of these systems of medical divination. Her name is changed around in English, to Li Yang, and she has published one book in English. Are you familiar with her work? Guest guest
Jack, I haven't a clue, but I'll ask Dr Zhang (on Friday) and get back to you. 'The other style you teach' -- I assume you're referring to the prediction system I mentioned? I'm not familiar with Yang Li. Guest guest
Hello Jack, The weather prediction system Dr Zhang uses is also founded on Yun Qi principles. It's essentially the Law of Five Elements applied to the visibility of planets. Now I have a question for you. When you first brought Yun Qi and Zi Wu Liu Zhu to my attention, I did some research online and found a few references, but always in the context of acupuncture. Is this what they're generally associated with? I'm asking because Dr Zhang uses the Yun Qi principles for nutrition, herbs, etc., not primarily for acupuncture, so I'm a bit puzzled. Also, you mentioned that you have a few books on Yun Qi. If there are any in English, would you mind giving me some titles? I'd love to find out what's out there. Thank you! Guest guest
Hi, Ariel: Most of the literature discusses the relationship between Yun Qi and acupuncture, but that doesn't preclude associations with herbs, massage, etc. Li Yang has the only book that I am aware of that has been partially translated into English. Her original book has been published in three editions since the 1980's in Chinese. It's quite large and covers a wide range of topics, under the title of " Zhou Yi and . " I understand this is available from Amazon. Yang Li (her name reversed in English) has written at least three books on medical divination, as she is a professor of medicine in Beijing. I've got them all but don't think that anything other than the above edition has been translated into English. She recommended Qi Men Dun Jia as a system of medical divination, which is why I translated a series of books about Qi Men Dun Jia, with a focus on medical divination. Guest guest
Hi Jack, Thank you for the info -- very interesting! I'll be looking forward to reading your book someday. Much success with it! Thomas (that's Dr Zhang) and I are working more on spreading the word to non-specialists. Aside from our annual almanac, we're planning books on nutrition, cooking, Taoism in everyday life and a few other topics. The highly technical books will come later.
