Cortex Cinnamomi Cassiae (Rou Gui) (medicinal grade cinnamon bark):

Returns yang (fire) to its lower source in the treatment of sore

throat, oral ulcers, glossitis, and other such symptoms of floating

yang. " (Dui Yao, p. 9.)

Sometimes Heat symptoms like redness, sore throat, etc. will appear

because the Yang is " floating " . Yang warms, activates, and dries.

The person can be Cold otherwise. The Yang is floating (at the

surface). The person can appear to have a Heat disorder when the

person really has a Cold imbalance. Too much of the Yang and Heat is

at the surface of the body. Part of your training will be learning to

recognize the symptoms of True Cold - False Heat and of Floating Yang.

Another pattern that can result in Cold in the Interior and Heat in

the Exterior is Wind Heat Invasion (of the Exterior) in a person

suffering from Interior Cold. Even though this condition and Floating

Yang share some symptoms, there will be differences. You'll learn to

recognize them.

Symptoms like sore and red throat, mouth ulcers, dry lips with sores

(especially in the corner) also can be due to Heat in the Stomach

and/or Lungs. Again, you'll learn to recognize the particular

constellation of symptoms and signs.

Unfortunately, medicinal grade cinnamom is expensive. It's not the

food grade cinnamom you buy in the supermarket.
