Guest guest
My wonderful TCM doctor is practicing again next week & I have an appointment with her on Monday. I can't believe how bad I felt before when I could compare it with how feeling 'normal' felt after I had treatments. What I took for normal before is kind of scary. I never realised how it felt to be calm & normal until I was. Anyway, I hurt my ribs on my right side - pretty sure they're only bruised & not fractured. Since treatment by Western standards are the same for both, I didn't want to bother with x-rays or seeing a conventional doctor. No obvious breaks though & rib movement is the same - no diff in looks from one side to the other. I guess I have to learn that I'm getting older & can't engage in too much rough & tumble (we had a picnic & a good water fight afterward - lots of fun). I'm not relying on pain killers much but do need to take some ibuprofen to ease the pain as it hurts to draw in a deep breath. Does any pain killers interfere with the full benefits of acupuncture, & if so, how long before a treatment should I not take anything? How many days? I want the full benefit of my Monday appointment. And a BIG thank you for EVERYone who responded about my Mom. Things have been crazy busy & I haven't been able to be online much. I finally talked her into seeing my doctor & she's coming with me on Monday too. From some of the links, I was able to pinpoint a spot for her to use a bit of acupressure on & it helped her some. Guest guest
Judy: Great to hear that your mom is going to the doctor with you. Not sure about your painkiller question, but you may want to consider an alternative: light Japanese-style moxibustion along your rib area. I once helped a woman with a surface knife wound along her spleen area by using a series of small applications along the wound. She said the procedure helped her breathe more deeply. Guest guest
Actually, I'm not going for my ribs but to resume my previously interrupted past treatments. I'm sure the ribs will benefit though. Thanks for the suggestion, Jack. I will mention it to my doctor to see if she does that too. My body's looking after itself as I can feel the improvement since last Sunday when I got hurt. I figure by this Sunday, I won't need any painkillers but was concerned I should stop sooner to make sure they were completely cleared from my system. I had 3 brothers (no sisters) & then had 3 sons (no daughters) so I've always been a tomboy & liked rough-housing. Just have to realise I need to be more careful since I'm older.
