Guest guest
I am spending 7 to 8 hours a day this summer working outside under the Lower Alabama sun - temperatures in the high 90's low 100's, high level of humidity. I sweat abundantly and I drink between 1 1/2 and 2 gallons of water a day to rehydrate myself. I have however problems of cramps mostly in thighs and forearms sometimes side abdominal muscles. I suppose it happens because I loose minerals when I sweat, which are not replaced when I drink water. I eat a rather balanced diet (in my opinion) and have tried to drink diluted gatorade, which does not seem to help. I have received different advices by lots of different people, such as eating bananas, drinking water with lemon and nutrasweet, eating more fruits... but I am not sure I should trust them. Any TCM suggestion would be welcome Thank you Frederic
Guest guest
Try Young Coconut water Here is some information about Coconut Water: " It's a natural isotonic beverage, with the same level of electrolytic balance as we have in our blood. It's the fluid of life, so to speak. " In fact, during the Pacific War of 1941-45, both sides in the conflict regularly used coconut water - siphoned directly from the nut - to give emergency plasma trasfusions to wounded soldiers. Most coconut water is still consumed fresh in tropical coastal areas - once exposed to air, the liquid rapidly loses most of its organoleptic and nutritional characteristics, and begins to ferment. * Coconut Water is More Nutritious than whole milk - Less fat and NO cholesterol! * Coconut Water is More Healthy than Orange Juice - Much lower calories * Coconut Water is Better than processed baby milk- It contains lauric acid, which is present in human mother's milk * Coconut water is naturally sterile -- Water permeates though the filtering husk! * Coconut water is a universal donor-- Its identical to human blook plasma * Coconut Water is a Natural Isotonic Beverage - The same level we have in our blood. * Coconut water has saved lives in 3rd world countries thru Coconut IV. " Coconut water is the very stuff of Nature, biologically Pure, full of Natural Sugars, Salts, and Vitamins to ward off fatigue... and is the next wave of energy drinks BUT natural! " , according to Mortin Satin, Chielf of the United Nation's Food & Agriculture Organization. Coconut water contains more potassium (at about 294 mg) than most sports drinks (117 mg) and most energy drinks. Coconut water has less sodium (25mg) where sports drinks have around 41mg and energy drinks have about 200 mg! Coconut water has 5mg of Natural Sugars where sports and energy drinks range from 10-25mg of Altered Sugars. Coconut water is very high in Chloride at 118mg, compared to sports drinks at about 39mg. Data is based on a 100ml drink. Guest guest
Interesting. Thanks for this information. Where does one obtain 'young' coconut water if you don't live in Florida or the tropics? I am assuming by 'young' you mean the 'green' coconut, i.e. with all the husk present as opposed to the brown coconut without the husk that can be purchased in a supermarket. Does the water from the brown, dehulled ..not so young...coconut have the same properties? Curious. Thanks again. th newbodystore <newbodystore wrote: Try Young Coconut water Here is some information about Coconut Water: " It's a natural isotonic beverage, with the same level of electrolytic balance as we have in our blood. Guest guest
Most Americans have seen and tasted the milk and meat of the mature (brown, hairy) coconut; a green coconut is really the same food, but it is just younger. Sometimes the green outer shells are cut off before they are shipped to U.S. markets. Look for either the green shell or a white " husk " if the outer shell has been removed. You may not see them in the produce section of your big-chain supermarket, but they are readily available in Asian, Latino, and other ethnic or farmers' markets. Many health food stores will carry them upon request. --- Twyla Hoodah <twylahoodah wrote: > Interesting. Thanks for this information.
