Guest guest
I hope I wont infringe or step on anyone's toes. It sounds to me as if you or someone close to you has been hurt because of healthcare people that you feel did not understand. I know this frustration well, especially in the case of chronic dehabilitating conditions that are not easily diagnosed/treated especially by western medicine. Honestly I hear what you are saying; a great doc of whatever modality can make all of the difference in the world. I hear the patient frustration that they feel if the Dr was a little more accommodating that it would make all the difference in the world. I feel like you might also be implying great Dr's a few and far between, and you are exactly right. A great Dr for a certain condition is not always up to par for another, even more so a Dr that is great for something but has a personality clash with the patient in all likelihood cannot be a great Dr for that particular patient. All of this is the nature of the business, hence why there is specialization (both in Chinese and western, western is obvious, and the way TCM Dr's specialize has more to do with the function of a given organ, like a Liver specialist or something), and most keep looking until they find a Dr that has a compatible personality. Overall I don't really like to see people contend over such an issue. I feel what you are saying, and I can see the need for Dr's who spend more time trying to learn how to accommodate disease types. I also hear Vinod's expression saying that no matter how much a Dr learns they cannot accommodate someone who is not open to letting old habits and lifestyles (ect) go and not just open to change, but really seeking change out (in whatever stage it might be in, in early stages sometimes the individual seeking change wont even recognize, and that they are doing so sometimes they feel like the Dr really inspired them to seek out the change). There is no right answer to this dilemma, it is all case by case and very relative to the perception of the onlooker. The best that a Dr can ever hope for is that someone will come to them with the attitude, " Doc, I'll do whatever it takes " , and actually do whatever it takes. The best thing a patient can hope for is a Dr that has studied long enough and seen enough to know what pattern they have, and what things they can take in to consideration that would help ease the situation enough that the patient can climb out of it all. Only in such a relationship can real healing take place. In fact nearly all healers have many stories that things just came together almost by chance, things that were beyond their skill that just worked out and miraculously. The Dr I visit has this saying, " If someone getting treatment comes to me and gets truly healed over the course of treatment, I consider myself truly lucky and blessed, as this is uncommon, and not expected. " Overall all-in-all I think both sides have great points for consideration.
