This is true of all health recovery - if an individual can not participate in their own recovery their chances of recovering are very small. All healing is self healing - the medicines and other therapies we take are only aids in our struggle to find balance and recovery in ourselves. It is our ownselves that must walk every step of our lives - there are no magic bullets that somone is holding out there - if we could just find that person. There is no such person. My father has always said about this " The recovery from disease is actually just common sense and most people already know at least some of the things they need to do or stop doing to recover their health - and the world is full of healing modalaties and always has been since ancient times - yet the majority of people are full of disease and they will never recover from these diseases - they will die from these diseases. " > > I think it is time for promoters of weight-loss/insulin > resistance-curing diets to delve into > WHY people can't stick with diets for as long as they need to, to lose > their excess fat. " Just follow the diet " is not good enough any more. > It is not that simple. Nobody says that recovery from disease is easy - it is not. Traditional science has always known the nature of disease and they know why people are unable to follow diets - are in many cases even take their medicines. They are suffering from a pathology which has seperated them from their own ability to help themselves by eating and living in a less harmful way - they have lost their energy and their will power and motivation to succeed in life. This for many is an incurable life threating disease. Physicians generally have no power over these existenial facts. When I as a physician am advising anyone in anything - I do not know if this will be useful to a particular person or not. I am not the determiner of any other persons life - they make their own choices - and physicians do not feel responsible for that - they give the little they have to offer - those who use that in a useful way do it out of their own choice from their own motivations - the ones who can not follow our advise are not the ones we can help. Millions of people have overcome disease process and been healed of serious disease by following diferent regimes. I advocate certain diets because I believe at least in part in the theory behind it and or I feel that it is the easiest way for many. For those who can not do it - that's the way it is. If it were any good at all, there'd be no fat > people, because all these diets are so highly publicized nowadays. > It is not the fault of the diet that people can not follow it - it is their own pathology. The major reasons why people can not lose weight on diets is because they do not follow the diet. They are under the sway of serious compulsions that are destroying them but they can not stop. These are often psychological attachments to foods or lifestyles or whatever. They are not serious about healing or they are trapped by these compulsions. > I hear that mercury and other toxicity as well as hormonal > disturbances (which might be caused by the toxicity) are two possible > causes for some people's > inability to lose weight or their inability to stick with a diet for > the necessary period of time. There are many reasons why people can not lose weight and why they can not stick to diets - whatever it is you will have to find someone who understands what is wrong with you - BUT - even if you do find that person they will only be able to help if you can follow their advise. Do not expect to go to an Endocrinologist (hormones) or a Chelation therapist (mercury) and they will have a magic bullet that you can just walk into the office and pay for - and all your problems will be solved - life is not so simple. Example I have been an Endocrinologist for over forty years and there are several Endocrinological theories about how to lose weight - but none of them achieve their goals without the full participation of the patient. If the patient can not follow the protocol then all theories are useless. The patient has wasted their money and time going to that person - and they have also wasted the physicians time - but the physician does not feel responsible - at least they got their fee. All of this is the reason why I belive in 'natural' medicine - it works on the whole person - and it has some scope to break through some of these compulsons and irrational behavior patterns - but even the most profound medical concept and the greatest physician in the world can not help if the patient is not able to at least take the medicines and therapies - coming reguarly for the apppointments. Most patients go to a physician for only a few appointments (many only come once)- and becuase the physician did not have any magic to heal long term chronic disease in a few weeks they move on to the next thing - then the next ----- Anecdote - I was setting in my cousins clinic observing him with his patients - An old fellow came in carried by his sons - he had severe arthritis and was unable to walk and was full of pain - he was to get heat treatments on his knees - I walked over to this man and asked him how he was doing - he looked sheepishly at my cousin and whispered to me - his medicine is no good - I asked what was the problem - he said - I took his medicines and it did not work - I said - what medicines did you take - he pulled a bottle from his pocket and showed me - it was a bottle of a classic medicine given for arthritis pain - it was about 3/4 full - I said Sir you did not take this medicine - you only took about a fourth of the bottle - he said - Oh doctor I stopped taking that medicine because it did not work - he pulled another bottle from his pocket and showed me it was a bottle of Darvon (an alopathic analgesic)- my cousin asked him well did you take the foods I told you to take - that will help to take the water and heat out - his son said - doctor we can not do like that - my mother will never prepare two meals one for the family and one for father - it is too much bother - my cousin and I looked at each other helplessly - the old man siad - sir you are University proffesor what do you think I should do the pain is unbearable sometimes I feel I do not want live like this - I said - take your Darvon and come here for the heat treatments. My cousin is a purist in natural healing and does not believe in analgesics as they have side-effects - so he was surprised to hear my answer - ;ater he asked me - Vinod why have you told the man to take poison i know you do not believe in that stuff - I said - I said it out of compassion for the mans situation - he has few choices. Physicians and healers constantly face such delimmas - we are not at fault and the patient is not at fault - life has dealt such cards and what can anyone do about it.
