Guest guest
I would like to write a message to everyone on the board. I would like to do so without attacking or singling anyone out, as that is not what I am doing-Rather I would like to express something I have noticed, as maybe others have felt the same way I do, but not had the courage to mention it. I would like to say that I feel this board is a great way to communicate with others about Chinese Medicine, and it's great that we can get so many inputs from so many types of people from so many different walks of life with many types of experiences, which helps get a good all around view which is very helpful. The thing I would like to talk about is sometimes I feel that with some posts there gets to be a contention, and I would like to explain the concerns I have with this contention. First off I would like to say that personally I think is great! It has a lot of history, and is based off of observation-So as more and more is learned about the body in Western Medicine, Western Medicine has to change its outlook and do some revamping. On the other hand , since it is based on observation, it is up to date, and still works the same way it always has. This allows you to treat complex conditions that actually exist (because of the science of observation), instead of just treating more compartmentalized and borderline theoretical cases (see note at the end). I am sure that just about everyone on this board feels the same way about , and really values it, and really feels that it has some good to do in the world. I think that most people would agree that TCM could really help out in the US and other places if it was more widely known- Which is probably one of the big points of this board (to make TCM more common place that is). My concern is, if we (as people who know about TCM in whatever degree), who want to share this and let it benefit those whom it would work for, are being contentious amongst ourselves, what kind of message are we sending out to people who are potentially interested, and TCM could benefit? The other thing is, I really feel like there are people on this board that want to ask and learn more about things, but the prospect of possible contention is more than they want to face (ie they don't want to get in a fight, or they don't want to feel stupid or otherwise uncomfortable because they don't know as much as they would like to about TCM). I would like to ask everyone, without stepping on any toes, if they could do the favor, both for the betterment of TCM, and the people who might be lurking on the board or are looking at examples, of making a friendly environment where people feel free to share what they know, even if it is limited, or in some ways incorrect, and that we all can respond to each other in a way that makes people look at our board and TCM and want to be a part of it. Thank you for taking time to listen to my observations and concerns, and I hope I have not stepped on anyone's toes as this is not my intent! Note: I would like to make a note at the end about Western Medicine because it really didn't fit up there, and it also deserves credit. Western Medicine is very very powerful. In fact in most cases if it is life threatening, Western Medicine does a terrific job of saving lives, and that is the reason it is regarded as powerful. Pneumonia for example is able to be treated with , but is still very life threatening, and takes a good deal of time to treat. With Western Medicine you just take 10 days worth of pills, and in most cases you don't even risk death as you did in the old days. It becomes more on the level common cold, just an inconvenience for a week or two. In the old days with pneumonia it was a traumatic life or death issue. I can't remember for sure what the mortality rate was before antibiotics, but it was something like 1 in 3 or 1 in 2 of every person that got it died.
