Guest guest
Dear group, I believe this is the first time I am writing, although I have been reading and appreciating, enjoying and learning from posts for almost a year. I am writing now because I have a question, a problem actually. Three days ago I started working at a new job, for an agency whose offices are in an old shopping center. I started having sinus headaches again, which I hadn't had for years, since I worked in another closed-in building. I spoke to another worker about how I was feeling, and she said that everyone is sick and is on allergy medication, that there is mold growing in the air conditioning system. Well, it makes sense that there would be mold growing in the air conditioning system. I don't want to quit this job, nor do I want to be an activist for them to clean the air system, nor do I want to take Western style allergy medicine indefinitely, but the headaches are very uncomfortable. Is there some TCM remedy I can take indefinitely so that the mold does not have a harmful effect on me? Also, if so, is there a way I can purchade it by mail-order? I am in a rural part of the country. Thank you in advacne for considering my question. Jill
Guest guest
Hi Jill, A couple of things may help. For the headaches the best choice is a formula called Xin Yi Wan. To build up the immune system to try and prevent further attacks a formula called Yu Ping Feng San and perhaps adding Reishi Mushroom. Of course pay close attention to diet. Get rid of all dairy products, and focus on cooked foods. Other things that you may have locally is stinging nettles( make a daily tea out of it) or mullein again make a tea. You can purchase the herbs at www.acuherbals.com or call 1-866-910-HERB. I just checked and we don't have the Xin Yi Wan listed on the website, but do have it in stock so you may want to call on Monday. Bethany our office manager can take your info over the phone. If you want to read about the other formulas take a look at the reishi and Yu Ping on the site. If you read about Bi Yang Wan it is very similar to xin yi wan. The xin yi wan though is geared more to pain from sinus problems rather than just sinus problems. bob www.acuherbals.com jmax5421 <jmax5421 wrote: Dear group, I believe this is the first time I am writing, although I have been reading and appreciating, enjoying and learning from posts for almost a year. Guest guest
Sometimes the best solution is to eliminate the problem. Like when some people's allergies are so bad they need to move to a new area in order to take a load off their bodies and give themselves a better chance of healing. (However the underlying Root of the allergies still need to be addressed or the person eventually develops allergies to the things in the new area.) Molds aren't just allergens and don't just cause things like sinus problems and headaches. Sometimes they can be deadly. Mold problems need to be eliminated. Some of the more deadly molds could take up residence in that system. There are somethings that can overwhelm a body no matter how strong the Protective Qi or how many formulas one is on. When the Chinese talk about miasmas or mists that cause disease and even death, part of what they're talking about are certain molds. It may be part of your life's journey to become an activist. It may not be mold in the AC system but some other problem. It needs to be checked out and the whatever the problem is corrected. There's something wrong or several people wouldn't be having problems. You didn't say what kind of agency you work for, but any clients coming into the building also are at risk. This is very true of any who are very old, very young, or already have compromised immune systems. Guest guest
Thanks to Bob and Victoria for replying to my question about the sick building. I will try the herbs. As for activism, I am working for a county social work agency. The county has no spare funds, and social workers have a hard time getting agency help for clients who need mattresses for their children, and such. Clients are in and out of the building all day, don't stay long enough to experience the effects. And this was my fourth day on the job. So I am not ready to try activism. Thanks for the suggestion anyway. Jill
Guest guest
Jill: Advocacy is a tough question. From 1990-94 I worked in a sick building on the UC Berkeley campus. The building was an old bank and was known to be an earthquake hazard, and the second-worst building on campus. It wasn't till after I left that my sinus problems went away and I realized it was the building that caused the trouble. You might think that advocacy in Berkeley would win friends, but my co-workers were all loyal career bureaucrats and wouldn't dare rock the boat. Besides, the university promised a new building (which still hasn't gone past the design stage, 12 years later) to solve the problem. Twelve years after I left, my former colleagues are still there, the building is still the same, funds for the new building have dried up, and Berkeley is no longer a world-class university. Even at Berkeley, I think advocacy would have earned me an early layoff notice. You are probably right not to press for a change at this time. Kind regards, Jack --- j mullin <jmax5421 wrote: > Thanks to Bob and Victoria for replying to my > question > about the sick building. I will try the herbs. Guest guest
G'day ms Jill, -You might want to 'roadtest' a Negative Ionizer: LivingAir sales used to lend them for a week or so to potential customers. -as an old CFS/FM bedevilled mechanic with TONS of CO poison, the ionizer saved me from ashyxiation & death many times along with migraines. -nowadays they come in a portable size... It goes without saying that Vitamin C will help a lot as well: www.orthomed.com cheers, dar Re: Sick building > Posted by: " Jack Sweeney " wrote: > Jill: > > Advocacy is a tough question. Guest guest
I didn't think of this until someone recommended getting an negitive Ion generator, but it may be of some use to you. It might be kind of expensive, but it might be worth it to you if it would keep you from getting sick. I do not actually have this unit, but when I went looking for an Ion generator on the web I was quite impressed with this one. This unit does not have a fan or any moving parts, but seems to work very well from the home movie clip on the website. They fill a glass jar with cigarette smoke and then place it over the unit. Within about 15 sec or so the unit has the air smoke free. Seems quite impressive to me without any moving parts. Anyways the link to the movie is http://www.negative-ion-generators.com/videos/Negative_ions_removing_smo\ ke.MOV <http://www.negative-ion-generators.com/videos/Negative_ions_removing_sm\ oke.MOV> you'll need quicktime or the quicktime plug in to view. and the link to the product on the website is http://www.negative-ion-generators.com/store/index.php?cPath=22 <http://www.negative-ion-generators.com/store/index.php?cPath=22> or the main page is http://www.negative-ion-generators.com/ <http://www.negative-ion-generators.com/> Anyways if you get it, or if you get something else, let us know how it worked for ya =) Also the oreck unit has an ion generator in it and is hepa compliant. The sharper image unit (the quadra I think) might also work, but it kind of has some bad marks against it in some respects (if you want to know more about it, just let me know, I would be glad to share). And maybe a ion generator or an air filter isn't really what you are looking for (afterall you did ask what chinese formula would work), but then again it might help if it could take the mold spores out of the air in your office, who knows. I'm just beginning with the whole TCM thing, so I can't really recommend anything for you that way. Good luck with it all, and I hope that you find something that works for you! Guest guest
Thanks to Dar and Mrasmmm for your responses to my 'sick building' question. What is odd is that, thankfully, I am feeling better, without having really done anything except that I bring a gallon of water and drink the whole gallon through the course of the day, and I am saying an affirmation a friend gave me: I dwell in peace (focus on head); I experience harmony (sense entire body); I breathe in healing (focus on heart and solar plexus). Best wishes to all, Jill
