Guest guest
made several researches about herbs and supplements to avoid for autoimmune issues. I find the infos counter-indicating each other like herb x is good for autoimmune coz it modulates immune but other info say it is immune stimulating. i really want to try herbs since its the same as western treatments like IVIG/LIT which can either suppress or flare up your immune? INFO 1: In autoimmune disorders, we need to balance the immune system, not stimulate it. This is an important distinction. Herbs like echinacea and goldenseal will often aggravate the symptoms of people suffering from autoimmune disorders. It is the tonic herbs that act as adaptogens and normalizers that are helpful for autoimmune diseases. These are herbs like licorice, ganoderma or reshi mushrooms, Siberian ginseng, cordyceps. INFO 2: Immune enhancers. It's possible that immune-enhancing herbs such as astragalus, echinacea, maitake, and reishi may counteract the effect of corticosteroids and other drugs that suppress immune response. If you take an immunosuppressive drug (for an autoimmune condition or to suppress rejection of an organ transplant), I would avoid use of immune-enhancing herbs. in western medicine field, there is a test where we put the medicine with our blood sample in a tube to see how much our immune is suppressed with the drug. i wonder if it could be done with these herbs (wishful thinking!) so at least we can avoid these expensive, side-effects producing western medicines! marilyn marilyn
