Hi Marilyn,

I wanted to share my experience with allergies and Chinese herbal

medicine. Until last spring I was allergic to cats, birds, dust mites,

most chemicals (laundry detergent, perfumes, etc), shellfish, fish and

countless other substances. Then I got acupuncture and took a Chinese

herbal formula prescribed based on my constitution. I went through an

intense healing reaction which felt like having my head in a cat for

10 days with flu-life symptoms, sneezing, the works. I went back for a

second treatment which resulted in a milder healing reaction. After

that, my system was a lot stronger, I could be in the same room with a

cat and not have a problem, but if I put my face next to it, my eyes

itched. Also, I noticed that the allergic response depended on the

state of my health. If I was relaxed, eating well and healthy, there

was no problem. Recently I started chi kung and meditation which has

strengthened/balanced my system even more.

Another thing to look into would be the possibility of candida

overgrowth. Some people suggest that dead cells of candida in the

blood can cause an auto-immune reaction. I noticed personally that

some things are awful for my immune system - ice cream, sugar and too

much salt (all these things feed candida).

After reading about bovine colostrum and how well it's done for

people's immune systems, I decided to try it. I am now going through a

healing reaction after taking bovine colostrum (flu-like symptoms)

which is supposed to balance the immune system and I think it's

working for me. I read that about 40% of people get a healing reaction

with flu-like symptoms after taking colostrum. It's something to look

into. I'm still trying to find a reference to colostrum in TCM.

I would also like to mention Paul Pitchford's book: Healing with Whole

Foods. It opened my eyes about nutrition and how it influences one's

health. Allergies happen because of imbalances from food, the

environment and stress. For a long-term resolution, one really has to

learn to take care of the body.

I hope this helps a bit and I wish you good luck with your treatments.

Sandy
