Guest guest
How would neuropathy of the feet be defined in TCM......... I have a friend that has contacted me after the doc's has had no luck with treating her, she has also went to a local chiro that does accupressure and has the chiro confused..........her feet ache and hurt ONLY when she takes her shoes off in the evening........after the pressure is relieved then the aching begins. She says at times they hurt so bad that she can't stand for anyone or anything to even slightly touch her feet as it sends her in tremendous pain. It seems to be the nerves in the skin that is causing the pain and not anything muscular. My husband reminded me that when he was very young he contracted the disease Guillen Barre and at it's beginning he also had the pain but his was in his chest area, when anything even a sheet touched the skin of his chest....would have a burning effect of pain. Anyway, has anyone experienced such a thing with clients or personal with any results? thanks in advance, Marlene
Guest guest
Does the chiropractor know and use TCM? Not every one who uses acupressure or acupuncture knows or uses TCM. Does the chiro know what her TCM diagnosis? These are some general remarks. One symptom of a Deficiency condition is that pressure eases the pain. One symptom of an Excess condition is that pressure makes it worse. These are general remarks. From the description so far, this sounds like a possible mixed Deficiency/ Exccess condition. As long as she has her shoes on and a constant pressure on the feet, she isn't in pain. But once she removes the shoes, aching begins, and it sometimes hurts worse when someone or something touches her feet. How does she get her shoes on in the morning? Does the condition relieve after several hours of sleep to where she can get her shoes on? Are there edema problems? If so, where? Does she spend a lot of time standing in one place during the day? Sitting? Guest guest
In all cases of neuropathy diabetes must first be ruled out as it is the number one cause of neuropathy. True neuropathy is damage to nerves caused by insuffecient oxygen either chronically or in an accute episode of oxygen depravation - generally speaking it can not be cured. This is a circulatory disorder - a disease of stasis. In mild cases circulation can be improved somewhat and this will help to some extent but damged nerves can not usually be repaired. Acupuncture and FAR lamps have benefit to some extent. This usually does not cause serious troubles (unless it is severe)until latter in life - when it might leave the limbs weak. If this is true diabetic neuropathy this can definately become a progressive condition leading to gangrene in advanced states. Herbs that break stasis can keep the deteroration from continuing - possiblities are formulas like Xiao Yao Wan when indicated by the general organ patterns. These type of formulas are more and more being used for all stagantion processes. If there is diabetes then the case must be looked at fully from that perspective. Do a search at itmonline on diabetes.
Guest guest
One other thought that came to mind that I forgot to mention. Is this person damaging the nerves in her feet with her shoes? She should carefully analyze this issue. I have seen people completely inhibit the circulation in the feet with unnatural shoes. If she tried a pair of open sandals and the problem persists - then she can start looking at more serious explanations.
Guest guest
on the neuropathy of the feet.......... he is not a diabetic, jobs requires alot of sitting, and putting shoes on in the a.m. is no problem.......... apparently the Chiro they are going to has told him to not drink Essiac Tea but on the other hand the chiro has said that the neuropathy of the feet , he thinks, is related to liver problems and he is beginning a liver detox and rebuilding...............this doesn't sound right to me for some reason, for one thing Essiac is GREAT for detoxing/rebuilding the liver !!!!!???? Any ideas, or opinions ???? much thanks, Marlene
