Guest guest
Here's some basic info for the beginning TCM students on the list: In the article Vinod cites, the term " YangMing Leg " is used. This is another way of saying the Stomach meridian. There are 6 pairs of the 12 basic meridians. One of each pair will transverse the leg/ foot, and the other will transverse the arm/ hand. The 6 pairs are: TaiYang (Greater Yang) - Small Intestine (hand) and Urinary Bladder (foot). ShaoYang (Lesser yang) - Triple Heater (hand) and Gall Bladder (foot). YangMing (Yang Brightness - Large Intestine (hand) and Stoamch (foot). TaiYin (Greater Yin) - Lungs (hand) and Spleen (foot). ShaoYin (Lesser Yin) - Heart (hand) and Kidneys (foot). JueYin (Absolute Yin, aka Dark Yin) - Pericardium (hand) and Liver (foot). You'll note that all the Yang channels correspond to Yang Organs (bowels). All the Yin channels correspond to Yin Organs. You might as well go ahead and memorize these 6 pairs as you will be seeing them a lot. If you don't have them memorized, it's going to slow down some of your reading as you'll have to look them up every time one of these terms is used. Memorizeing the pairs also will help you fix in your mind where the meridians begin or end - feet or hands. The Yang Foot meridians - Bladder, Gall Bladder, and Stomach - all terminate on the foot. They descend. But the Yang Hand meridians - Small Intestine, Triple Heater, and Large Intestine - all begin on the hand. They ascend. The origin and termination points are the opposite for the Yin meridians. The Yin Foot meridians - Spleen, Kidneys, and Liver - all originate on the Foot. The Yin Hand meridians - Lungs, Heart, and Pericardium - all terminate on the hand. After you get a bit more comfortable and familiar with the meridians, you'll note that each hand has 3 pairs of " coupled " meridians and each foot has 3 pairs of " coupled " meridians. For example, the Liver is Yin Wood (element), and the Gall Bladder is Yang Wood. The Gall Bladder meridian terminates on the foot, and the Liver starts on the foot. The Heart, Yin Fire, terminates on the hand, and the Small Intestine (Yang Fire) begins on the hand. The Pericardium, Yin Fire, ends on the hand, the the Triple Heater, Yang Fire, starts on the hand. The Stomach, Yang Earth, terminates on the foot, and the Spleen, Yin Earth, starts there. The Lungs, Yin Metal, terminates on the hand, and the Large Intestine, Yang Metal, starts there. The Bladder meridian, Yang Water, ends on the foot, and the Kidneys, Yin Water, starts on the foot. This is something that it takes time to feel familiar with.
