It's a sign that you're not getting enough potassium for sure and sometimes

magnesium and calcium. The potassium is the biggie though. Good sources are

broccoli, bananas, and potatoes, to name a few. There are a lot of

good fruit and vegetable sources.

When I get them, I usually force myself to stand and they do go away..nice to

have someone massage them out though. You're right, the soreness can linger.

People who take diuretics for blood pressure are more at risk for them, as the

potassium and other electrolytes are flushed out.

My wife occasionally gets severe leg cramps at night, usually when it is a

little cold, but not

always. We massage them out, but the muscles get very sore, sometimes for days.

What can we do to prevent these cramps?? Is there any food or herb that can be

taken to

prevent cramps??

It sounds like a possible potassium or magneisium def. Is she on a diretic

medication? Easy answer is to try taking a mineral supplement, It should take no

more than 2 weeks to see the results, If no improvement then it is something

else. If no diretic also excessive use of coffee, soda or purgatives/colon

cleanses could also cause this.

Is she taking any kind of Statin Medication? These cholesterol lowering

drugs causes many different kinds of muscle cramping.

My friend was having awful cramping along her rib cage. She tried mineral

supplements and co-Q10. Didn't help. She got talking to a friend at work

that said she was having bad leg pains and the only thing that stopped them

was ending the Statin medication she was on. My friend was curious if her

statin medication was causing her rib cage pain. She stopped the medication

and the pain went away and never came back!

Some blood pressure meds increase potassium and decrease other minerals like

magnesium...
