Guest guest
One point that I often see neglected is the Grandparent or controlling-restraining functions of the organs. Many malfunctions can be explained by these relationships. Example if there are constituional weaknesses in the Lungs then it is inevetable that Liver problems may develop because the weak Lungs are unable to perform their control over the Liver. This can manifest in simple chronic issues. The Lungs as an example have as one of it's functions the removal of certain toxins from the blood - such as carbon dioxide and carbolic acid - if the weakened Lungs do not do this then the Liver will be put under stress trying to compensate for this weakness. Just as each Organ is dependent on another Organ for it's nourishment - all of the Organs are dependebt on another organ to help it keep control of it's own functioning. TCM called these functions the Grandparent functions. The Grandparent Organs and their Grandchildren are - Liver controls or restrains Spleen - Wood controls Earth Heart controls or restrains Lungs - Fire controls Metal Spleen controls or restrains Kidneys - Earth controls water Lung controls or restrains Liver - Kidney controls or restrains Heart These relationships are important in approaching a theraputic strategy - whenever any Organ system is under stress the Grandparent should be evaluated so as to give the maximum support to the stressed Organ. Often ignoring the Parent and Grandparent relationships to the stressed Organ acts as an absolute barrier to healing.
