Guest guest
I would like to repeat that it is not possible for me to answer medical questions written to me personally. This would not be appropriate and could harm the patient. The health professional that diagnoses cases and reccomends specific therapies for a case that they have not even seen is not practicing medicine. A patient is much more than a collection of symptoms and syndromes. The health care professional must evaluate the whole patient - which includes determining the constitutional type as well as all visual clues in the body type, pulse, tongue, posture, countenance, voice, etc. To make recomendations on a generalized basis is one reason that makes many people turn against a particular healer or system - if the therapy is not trully suited to the individual case it might not help aat all or worse cause side-effects and complications. One simple example is the fact that many people reccomend Qi building substances (to help a fatiqued person have more energy)- yet many of these substances can greatly harm Yin defecient individuals. I actually see these problems very frequently. Whenever I am discussing cases here or mentioning particular herbs, foods, or syndromes I am not referring to any particular case - I am speaking in general. It would be a mistake to pick up on something someone says in a general discussion group and try to apply it in a personal mannner. In Ayurveda as an example there is the concept that sypmtoms should be treated in a particular order (aaccording to the case) - with the Kapha (water and earth) symptoms being addressed first - next the Pitta (heat symptoms) should be addressed - lastly the Vata (air) symptoms should be addressed. Without understanding the reasons for these medical concepts great harm can be done and the disease can be driven to deeper levels - and therfore end the patient in worse condition than when they first started treatment. I know fully well the problems in finding a qualified practioner (what to say of a true master healer)but please do not make the mistake of trying to have your (profundly personal)medical problems solved in the Internet. From what Victoria has often stated I think her concept in forming this group is to help educate western people in the concepts of traditional healing. This is the best way to look at the many comments made here. This is not a theraputic environment - it is an educational forum for discussing medical issues from different perspsctives among people with various interests in the subjects discussed. This includes everything from health seekers to professional health practioners and the simply curious. I like such environments and is the reason why I post here. I belong to several professional groups but rarely post since many of those sites are so full of ego that it is impossible to state anything without being attacked - it is a matter of one upmanship - very boring. I once belonged to a professional group that had several of the top western practioners in TCM and they spend most of their time arguing with each other (often over irrelevant issues or worse ego issues). this is a weak point in intellectual pursuits - many think that their opinion is the only valid opinion. It seems the Internet brings out these non-professional attitudes in many otherwise rational people. I would never want to go anywhere where people are arguing and belittling others. Their loss is our gain. I have a selfish reason for being glad they're egotistical and argumentative. Though the better side of me realizes that were they not more would be learned and they could help their patients and clients more. But then I realize there are various professionals on this list too who are learning as well as TCM students, those new to TCM, and myself. So I'm going with selfish on this one.
