Even if it is prepared as powder, honey pill, water pill. Mai men dong Yinzi(potion) is quite different (from the herbals used) from Mai men dong Tang(decoction) Chaihu Shu Gan Tang(decoction) is different from Chaihu Shu Gan San (powder) Zhu Ling Tang Zhu Ling Wan Huang Qi Yinzi Huang Qi tang etc etc The composition of each recipe in itself is different, a different name ending has been chosen to state the difference. What makes things complicated is that recipes with *same* names sometimes have different constituents, issued by different doctors from different centuries. -------------------- wan is 'rising tone'.
