Guest guest
> off topic........what are some ways to deal with starvation edema? > neophyte, Michelle Through the centuries many different ways to categorize edemas were invented with classic systems like -four edemas: wind-, skin-, upright/real/steady-, stone-edema -water-stage and blood-stage edema in womens diseases -5-Zang-Organs edema (heart-edema, liver-edema etc) - 10-edemas (5-organs with added differentiation) ----------- TCM differentiates edema from: Ascites (edema:first in face and limbs, severe cases: whole body; ascites: swollen tummy), Zhi-yin (branch-fluids), Yi-yin (overflowing-fluids). With Yin(fluid) disease there is first breathing difficulties then edema; edema has water first, then breathing difficulties. now it goes like: 1) Yang-edema as wind, damp-evil are locking the systems --- edema can develop in the main-meridians and side-meridians, the (real materialistic) inner organs --- use diaphoretic and diuretic principle --- spread and expel watery fluids --- lung in focus .... a) wind-water overflowing b) ulcer toxins entering inwards c) water dampness accumulation d) damp-heat intermixed and knotted ..... starving edema would be found in the following main category, originating from malnutrition, wasting-syndrome, congenital deficiencies etc 2) Yin-edema the zang-fu-system itself is malfunctioning --- water and turbid matter is blocked in the interior --- warm the spleen tonify the kidney to maintain and support the zang-fu-system --- focus on spleen and kidney .... a) spleen lost its water guiding capability (spleen-stomach yang deficiency with cold in the middle, can't transport and transform the bodyfluids anymore) <more subcategories here> b) kidney deficiency water overflowing <more subcategories here> c) kidney qi lost its transforming capability <more subcategories here> d) spleen and kidney deficiency leads to blood and qi derangement <more subcategories here> - recipes with spleen disfunction in focus: wu-ling-san (powder consisting of the 5 ingredients with ling in their names) wei-ling-san (stomach and ling-named-ingredients powder) wu-pi-yin (potion with five peals in it) shi-pi-san (the fill/stuff the spleen powder) shen-ling-bai-zhu-san (wink, wink, analyse this one as a water-spleen disease standard, add humidifying/drying/phlegm/stasis/kidney etc herbals to this one at your liking) zhen-wu-tang (true-warrior-decoction) - The water-edema-influence ((I often translate Qi as influence)) is a Yin-evil, so it often damages the Yang-Qi, thats why often Qi and Yang and spleen and kidneys have to be treated. Use dredging and diuretics, dispersing, eliminating herbs cautiously as they damage and dissolve yin and qi in the long run) - uuuh...what was the question again?
