Guest guest
Recently there have been several discussions of Pediatric issues - since digestion is a favorite subject of mine as I consider it to be a basic key for achieving and maintaining healthI would like to encourage all parents and practioners to understand the importance of digestion to successful life.. Many parents study every kind of subject on raising healthy happy children. Yet few go deeply into the issues of how to maintain health in their children. A child who eats properly simply does not develop most of the common childhood ailmants - including personality and affect disorders. The beginning study should be on digestion as this will save your child from many sufferings and unnecessary challenges. Please study everything you can from TCM on how to raise helthy children. Bob Flaws and Honora Wolfe have written extensively on Pediatrics - they have a very important pamphlet on children and phlegm - understand the concepts in that pamphlet and one will go far in helping ones child avoid many ordinary disease processes. Most Western concepts about diet are not appropriate for children at all. The most important issues are to protect the Stomach and Spleen - which mainly means protection from COLD!!! (meaning everything cold in temperature and cold in their TCM energetics) - the stomach should remain moist and never be allowed to become dry (so the habit of feeding children crackers and other dry foods is not correct)- the food should be mild (without excess tastes - like sweet, sour, etc.)- children should eat only a little fruit and it should be lightly cooked without any excess sour taste - NEVER!!!!! overeat - never eat 'heavy' food like fried foods, oily foods, etc. - eat a light evening meal - the food should be warm, soupy, mild in taste, savory and uncutous (which means with a little oil) it should be tasty and readily acceptable to the child - overly sweet foods such as candy, cake, ice cream are very harmful to the spleen and should be avoided as if poisons (which they are since they completely imbalance the childs body starting with the process of causing too much dampness in the Spleen which is the cause of phlegm and the beginning stage of dozens of disease processes). I will try to post something on the pathologies associated with poor digestion soon.
