Guest guest
ok, here's one for you all;. Trilling, that's when one curls the tongue to the roof of the mouth and makes a " motor boat " sound. I recall my kids doing that a lot when they were little. A couple days ago someone on another e list (one for doulas) shared that one of their clients who teaches voice lessons uses it as a stress reducer. Well, yeah! Any thing silly like that can work as a stress reducer but it also struck me of the tongue's relationship to the Heart especially the tip. And what of Govener Vessel 28? I could see " trilling " having some kind of influence on that point. But what? I guess what I'm asking is, does anyone on list have experience in Qigong using " trilling " ? Guest guest
Penel: Sticking the tongue into the space above the middle teeth is a meditation method, methinks it is used to help the meditator concentrate on meditation. Maybe there is a special acupoint there. Guest guest
Well, yeah, in a way. I mentioned GV 28 (Du 28, " Gum Intersection " ) That's really in the gum line above the front teeth but by putting the tongue on the roof of the mouth one is connecting the Govenor Vessel with the Conception Vessel whose last point is CV 24 (Ren 24, " Container of Fluids " ). Vessels are a bit different than 12 regular Meridians of the 5 Elements. They're not seen as much as having a " current " like a Meridian. They're meant to regulate the balance of Qi between various Meridians. By meditating with a connected Du and Ren Vessels and encouraging a Qi current around the front and back of the body we can attempt to facilitate a balance of all the Meridians as well. From a Western scientific approach, somewhere in my past I recall someone suggesting to me that by speaking we massage the brain by the movement of the tongue on the roof of the mouth. (Just where I heard this, not a clue. I've taken all sorts of classes from a mess of traditions. I am very American.) If we were coming from an Ayuvedic approach to meditation, a part of the experience of speaking can be interpreted as a connection to various nadis (their interpretation of meridians of energy). This is one theory of why saying mantras in Sanskrit might have certain effectivenesses. Different sounds place a vibration on various parts of the oral cavity with puts different nadis into activation. A language teacher I had a while back (who was from Japan) mentioned there are people in Japan who theorize about how certain Japanese vocabulary sounds effect the energetic body as well. Back to TCM; I know there are special sounds one has option to make as doing Qigong, but I've never heard the suggestion of trilling. That's why I posed the question here. > Sticking the tongue into the space above the middle > teeth is a meditation method, methinks it is used to > help the meditator concentrate on meditation. > > Maybe there is a special acupoint there. > > Regards, Jack

It's the point where the Governor and Conception vessels meet. Putting the tongue to the roof of the mouth while meditating or doing specialized breathing during energy work helps increase the amount of energy being channeled. sue Mail - PC Magazine Editors' Choice 2005
