Guest guest
1. If you aren't coming off the predisone gradually under a doctor's supervision, you need to consult your doctor IMMEDIATELY. Prednisone is NOT a drug to stop cold turkey as that can create an adrenal crisis. The doctor also can rule in or rule out kidney stones. This is a Western allopathic diagnosis, not a TCM diagnosis. 2. You need to stop ALL sodas and anything with carbonated water. You didn't say if the sodas have sugar or NutraSweet in them. If they have sugar, you're running the risk of diabetes from that much sugar in that form daily. From a TCM (Traditional ) standpoint, excessive sugar can damage the Spleen. If they are diet sodas containing NS, preliminary observations indicate that NS can be damaging to the Kidneys from a TCM standpoint. There is another reason for stopping all carbonated drinks, not just sodas. It's been observed that carbonated water is bad for arthritis and can aggravate it. The pain and swelling in various parts of your body may be arthritis, what the Chinese call Painful Obstruction Syndrome (aka Bi Syndrome). You may want to do a search in the message section for Bi or Obstruction. It's not uncommon for pains to be retricted to one side of the body or worse on one side than the other. 3. If there is a TCM herbalist or acupuncturist in your community, you may want to consult him or her for a TCM diagnosis. TCM is very different from Western allopathic (establishment) medicine. You may have noticed in previous paragraphs I capitalized Spleen and Kidneys when talking about TCM instead of the anatomical spleen and kidneys. That's because the anatomical spleen is not equivalent to the TCM concept of the Spleen. Ditto for anatomical kidneys and the TCM concept of the Kidneys. TCM Organs are not so much anatomical as they are collections of functions. The TCM concept of the Kidneys contains many of the functions of the adrenal glands plus the condition of the bones plus the condition of the ears and/or hearing. (Yes, I know it sounds weird, but it has to do in part with the course of meridians (pathways of Qi flow) in the body as well as the Chinese being very keen observers of what things occur together. Considering what modern Western allopathic medicine has discovered about the role the adrenal glands and some other endocrine glands play in bone formation, the ancient Chinese knew what they were talking about when they wrote about the condition of the bones (and teeth) revealing things about the health of the Kidneys.) The Spleen includes many of the functions of the pancreas. TCM healers look at the entire health of the individual, not just symptoms. TCM is geared toward identifying and treating Roots (underlying imbalances) and not just treating symptoms. If symptoms are treated without the Root(s) also being treated, the underlying imbalance will keep manifesting in other ways. Eventually the treatment that was successful for the symptom is going to quit working as the Root becomes worse. TCM healers try to identify and treat all imbalances at the same time. They are very mindful of the possibility of treatment for one set of symptoms aggravating other symptoms. BTW, people with the same Western diagnosis may have very different TCM imbalances. That's why one TCM treatment for someone with say peptic ulcers may do nothing for a second person and may even make a third with a peptic ulcer sicker. The underlying TCM Roots are different so TCM treatment needs to be different. TCM healers diagnose and treat TCM imbalances. I always caution people who drink plenty of water to make sure they eat too. Otherwise the electrolytes in the blood can become too dilute, and this can trigger seizures and a lot of other bad things. It can trigger epileptic seizures in people with epilepsy, other types of seizures in others. There are two different types of kidney stones. One is triggered by the person not getting enough magnesium. I believe a deficiency of some of the B vitamins also can play a role. Guest guest
Hi Androshi, What Victoria said, read it all and why were you taking the prednisone in the first place? What did you have going on medically before the area of your kidneys started to hurt? If your adventure isn't very serious Marshmallow (Althea officinalis) tea might make you feel a bit better but even then it would take a long time for its tonic action to tonify yin to moisten mucous membranes and skin irritations enough to make a real difference. IF thats what needs to be done. You haven't convinced me that's what need to be done. As an activatior the energies of marshmallow direct themself more towards clearing damp heat in the bladder and intestines, not the kidneys. The quality, age and preparation of the tea is a factor. Flowers and leaves once dried have perhaps a one year medicinal shelf life. Roots, barks, berries and seeds have perhaps a 3 year medical shelf life. Herbs once ground up have perhaps a 6 to 9 month shelf life. If you bought your herb in a grocery store, ask yourself how long it sat in the warehouse. And even IF marshmallow is an herb that would help you, Asian medicine rarely uses one herb at a time. Perhaps its time you take your health serious. Perhaps its time you consult with a professional. btw, Echinacea is not an alternative to prednisone. Its not a tonic either. If used incorrectly without proper assessment of its actions, it might do more harm than good. How old are your echinacea pills anyway? Guest guest
hi everyone thanx for the information about the kidneys yes i am trying my best to eliminate the soda its diet pepsie ,and i could really drink 4 -2 litres per day i know that sounds crazy ,but im a drinker-not an eater the reason why i was on predisone is because i get bad gout and arthritus -i had asked my doctor for the pills because thats all i knew ,my mom had it and she used it -now i got it and i had to use it but after 3 months i said enough of this crap! first of all ,let me first say i always exercise and meditate.this drug made me feel like crap ,i cant feel my glands and i always meditate with them for chackras. then the weight gain! i gained 10lbs -i really feel fat !bloated. so now i stopped using them. i know im supposed to be weened off of them but i really rather not.my finger is the same ,swollen -and that the reason why i took the medication in the first place -to stop the swelling, its not working. im fluching my body with water-im drinking fruit juice more than ever i do take echinacea-but after reading victoria's post i feel that i have to take a stronger stand on the situation. as far as the marshmallow-the reason why i wrote that is because my intuition told me to take this. it speaks to me in flashes of memory and scents sometimes when im ill. it never lets me down and now it tells me to look under " mother and sun " to detox these organs. thanx again for helping me. androshi
Guest guest
> so now i stopped using them. i know im supposed to be weened off of > them but i really rather not You could kill yourself going off prednisone cold turkey. You need to be weaned off. You also need to work on developing patience. If you are Yin Deficient (Yin cools, calms, and moistens) or there is Excess Heat, learning patience is going to be harder than if a TCM healer helps you address the Yin Deficiency or Excess Heat problem. Please understand that this is NOT a diagnosis. A proper TCM diagnosis can only be done in person by a trained expert. This is raising some of the possibles to be ruled in or ruled out. > the reason why i was on predisone is because i get bad gout and > arthritus -i had asked my doctor for the pills because thats all i > knew ,my mom had it and she used it -now i got it and i had to use it I highly recommend that you search the message base on here for Bi or Obstruction. Or do a Google for Painful Obstruction Syndrome. TCM sees arthritis and rheumatism as being triggered by invasion of Wind, Cold, and/or Damp. Something called Protective Qi that circulates at the surface of the body gives resistence to invasion by Wind, Cold, Damp, and other Pernicious Evils. The Spleen plays a major role in the extraction of Qi from food and the accumulation of Qi in the body. If the Spleen is weak and there is not enough Qi, chances are the Protective Qi is going to be weak, and the person is going to be easily invaded by external Pernicious Evils. Pernicious Evils that have invaded can lodge in various places, including meridians (paths of Qi flow). There are herbs that can expel Pernicious Evils. A TCM healer will know which ones you need. The TCM concept of Wind includes not only the actual wind but changes in barometric pressure and changes in ion concentrations. Western studies have shown that low barometric pressure will cause tissues to swell in some people people, causing pain and other problems. Cherries are a very good anti-gout food. There are posts on here about cherries. Are there any breathing problems? Shortness of breath? > yes i am trying my best to eliminate the soda > > its diet pepsie ,and i could really drink 4 -2 litres per day > > i know that sounds crazy ,but im a drinker-not an eater Not really. One of the first things that strikes many about TCM is that it pays attention to a lot of things Western allopathic medicine doesn't. Poor appetite points to the possibility of Spleen Deficiency. Excessive thirst points to Heat problems. In some cases Deficiency Heat (aka Yin Deficiency) or Excess Heat. BTW, from a Western allopathic standpoint, poor appetite can be due to zinc deficiency. It has to do with the scence of taste. If the sense of taste is poor, this can manifest as either poor appetite or excessive appetite. Usually it's poor appetite. As an example of why TCM healers look at the entire situation instead of isolated symptoms, consider Painful Obstruction Syndrome (POS). Anyone can have what I call a bad Spleen day. The Spleen is temporatily weakened and Qi lowered because of things like not getting enough rest, eating too many sweets or artificial sweets, worry, over-work, etc. The weather is unseasonable or extreme, and Pernicious Evils invade. But if the Spleen weakness and Qi Deficiency are on-going, Pernicious Evils are going to continue to invade. As soon as you kick one out with herbs that expel Cold, Damp, and/or Wind, the weather changes and the person is invaded again. The Spleen needs to be strengthened in order to prevent future invasions. This is important: As a general rule, one does not take tonic herbs (herbs that supplement Qi, Blood, Yin, or Yang) until one expels any Pernicious Evils that are trapped. Otherwise the tonic herbs can feed the Pernicious Evil. Sometimes it is necessary to administer tonic herbs before the Perncious Evil is expelled, and a trained TCM healer will know how to do this. Guest guest
Hi, From what you wrote in your first message it looks like either a case of stone kidney, or worse, a kidney failure. Here is a Qi gong technique for healing Kidneys : http://www.chilel-qigong.com/new6-2002/ball.htm a more powerful technique is doing 100 " wall squats " a day. Yoga can help you as well: For example the " Gomak asana " bring pressure on the acupuncture points of the kidney. This can help in keeping the kidneys healthy and functioning properly. Use the following Asanas: - Gomak asana, - Matsendra Asana - dhanur asana, - sarvang asana, - bhadra asana, - mandook asana. My advice to you is to replace any meditation or chakra development method with practicing these asanas. It is not Important that you do the movements perfectly. Do them as far as you can without forcing too much. Then after having done for example one or several asanas, just sit down and close your eyes and feel the whole body and how the energy unfolds in the body after the asana is done. Stay with the feeling of beingness that it provides you and not with the thinking (That is what meditation should be). Do not dismiss the allopathic medicine (western medicine). It is true that allopathic medicine is only efficient as an emergency and/or survival tool. But they have progressed from the mechanical point of view in all sort of diagnosis methods. And they can see how much kidney function you still have. However I agree that allopathic medicine never heals a patient. The fact that you urinate is not enough, often times few weeks before a kidney failure, patients go too many times to pee in a day. Check the colour if it's like water or slightly yellow it's no good. Now my suggestion to you is that you use allopathic medicine diagnosis first and then once you know where the problem is mainly located (from the mechanical point of view) you find a healing technique in alternative medicines. You mentioned that you had arthritis. From the allopathic standpoint Joint pain can be caused by a disease called “gout” which is caused by an excess of Acid Uric (in the joints) which are toxic by-products and should be eliminated by the kidneys. Your kidney dysfunction could be related to your arthritis called gouty arthritis. Your swollen fingers are generally a sign of a gouty arthritis. When the swelling is caused by kidney dysfunction, the swelling is more general (example: a whole hand, or more generally your ankles). If it is caused by kidney dysfunction you can use Dandelion as a green in salads or as a tea, it is a diuretic and helps to pee even more to eliminate the excess water you have. Keep in mind this : -Check your nails. If you have stratified nails or wavy nails, you are on the way to have a serious kidney dysfunction (it may take a couple of years to become a an acute kidney failure). It’s because the ratio of Calcium and Phosphor in the blood stream is constant. Bones are made of Calcium and Phosphor (mainly Calcium). The stratification and brittle nails come generally from an excess of calcium that kidneys are supposed to evacuate. An excess of calcium and either deposit on the artery or on the joints and create other damages. -Measure your blood pressure : High blood pressure can damage the kidneys and causes ultimately kidney failure. Your blood pressure should be around 80 - 120 .. In fact when kidneys don’t work the blood pressure increases and vice versa. It’s a vicious circle (or catch 22). -Finally one thing which may cause all this is also a increase of the Thyroid gland function which will cause to increase the level of calcium in the blood and also the blood pressure and consequently damage the kidneys. You may want to check your Thyroid gland. and be patient and perseverant Fred Monchello Androshi <warlocke_rising a écrit :hi everyone thanx for the information about the kidneys yes i am trying my best to eliminate the soda its diet pepsie ,and i could really drink 4 -2 litres per day i know that sounds crazy ,but im a drinker-not an eater the reason why i was on predisone is because i get bad gout and arthritus -i had asked my doctor for the pills because thats all i knew ,my mom had it and she used it -now i got it and i had to use it but after 3 months i said enough of this crap! first of all ,let me first say i always exercise and meditate.this drug made me feel like crap ,i cant feel my glands and i always meditate with them for chackras. then the weight gain! i gained 10lbs -i really feel fat !bloated. so now i stopped using them. i know im supposed to be weened off of them but i really rather not.my finger is the same ,swollen -and that the reason why i took the medication in the first place -to stop the swelling, its not working. im fluching my body with water-im drinking fruit juice more than ever i do take echinacea-but after reading victoria's post i feel that i have to take a stronger stand on the situation. as far as the marshmallow-the reason why i wrote that is because my intuition told me to take this. it speaks to me in flashes of memory and scents sometimes when im ill. it never lets me down and now it tells me to look under " mother and sun " to detox these organs. thanx again for helping me. androshi Post message: Chinese Traditional Medicine Subscribe: Chinese Traditional Medicine- Un: Chinese Traditional Medicine- List owner: Chinese Traditional Medicine-owner Shortcut URL to this page: /community/Chinese Traditional Medicine
