Guest guest
Hallo Lu, As soon as I posted my message, yours came through. This is interesting as to why some kids dont get childhood diseases as my son is an example. He had innoculations as a child but there were only 3 diseases then, I think that they innoculated for, polio, TB and I think the other one may have been diptheria but am not sure. As was usual for those times, whenever any local child had measles or scarlet fever or mumps, he was sent round there to mingle and return, hopefully infected to get the disease out of the way while in early childhood. Not one disease did he ever catch. Apart from very mild asthma he never had a single disease or illness his entire childhood. I only have a lay persons poor knowledge of TCM but he would definately have a " hot constitution " , he gets flu occasionally in his adult life but that is about it. Something else I read rcently also got me thinking about general constitution in relation to diet and modern times. It was written by a a naturopathic doctor who , if not TCM trained ,had at least good knowledge of TCM. It was a web site about alternative treatments for various cancers and he stated that previously, good results could be had with curing some cancers with raw food therapy but that this therapy was reporting less and less cures these days and he felt that people in general were getting more and more yin and that this was why raw food therapy was not longer working. Something along the lines of, with all the chemicals around these days, not just in our diet but chemicals in general, peole were becoming more yin, therefore, raw foods, which are yin, are no longer the right approach. Thanks for your answers Susan

That *is* interesting, though I think the traditional TCM thought on raw foods is that it's not a good idea. At least for long term; perhaps for a few days it could cool down a `heat' condition. But generally, it's recommended to lightly cook all foods, not eat many raw. sue
