Guest guest
Hello all; while we are not having a severe problem with any of the dogs' ears, I have had several pups cross my path (one of which is mine) that do have a mild yeasty odor in the ears. There is the occasional head shake/ear scratch, but nothing I would say anywhere near being acute. The thing that bothers me the most is that this is in very young (2-3 months) pups. I know its a red flag, but for what I do not know. This does not seem to be a typical food allergy problem of which I am familiar, & all pups mentioned have improved slightly but not significantly when switched from good quality kibble to a raw diet. I don't know if living in the Pacific Northwest predisposes these types of problems, but I would love to be able to completely clear it. Also, if anyone has a recommendation for a good TCM practitioner in the Portland area I would really appreciate it. The holistic vets around here have not impressed me very much with their knowledge or results, so I thought I'd try finding someone I can go to & maybe eventually get a consult for the dogs that way. Appreciate all thoughts. Dee
Guest guest
I don't have any Chinese Healing information for you. Just some of my own " pet Peeves. " My oppinion is all dog food is JUNK. Even high quality stuff that breaks the bank is a bag a junk too. I say this out of frustration with two dogs that I own. I don't have puppies. We purchased a puppy two years ago and all the dog food we put her on gave her the runs. I found only one brand that she will eat that doesn't make her poop a mess. She doesn't realy like it. Can't say I blame her, it is bland. I don't make it a habbit of giving my dogs table food, but when she does get some leftovers she doesn't have any bathroom problems with what I eat. I have an old dog I had to switch his food 3 times. He seems to feel better except for still an itchy allergy that itches his nose and eyes. This is an allergy formula with no preservatives. HA! I don't believe it at all that they know what they are doing with the dogs food. I think they cheapened it to no end and at the same time rip us off of all the money that is possible. I am very close to making my own dogs their own meals. I have had it! I found with myself that certain products can put what they want in formulas and not even list it on the lable. There isn't no law about it. It is ashame for us and it is ashame for them. They are even more helpless. I don't know how much purchased food you give these little ones of yours, or if that is the problem. With ear shaking my rabbit had this problem and itching. Doctor talked to me about her having a bad infection that she might need surgery. Well she did have an infection but it was the result from ear wax building up in the ears. Maybe you might want to try to flush out the ears twice a day. I was given a hebal mixture to kill the bactiera too. It woked. No more ear wax and no more bacteria = no surgery. A vet should be able to tell you if wax is in the ear by looking into it. If it is badly plugged up they can't see it all. Give it about 3 days to a 1week of flushing and you will be soon to tell if it is a wax problem or an allergy problem. Dogs can get ear mites too. That they can see under their ear scope. It would be good to know if they pick up mites. Could have gotten them from the mom or if the puppies were carried to a place where mites like to live and jumped on the pups. You can't see mites with the eyes, only under the ear scope. To our eyes it looks like black dirt. I would kill two birds with one stone and if you need a vet try to find a natropathic or homeopathic one. I live on the east coast. Food is crap here too. Guest guest
You might want to check a website called rawmeatybones or switchingtoraw. Since you dislike the kibble foods for dogs (I do too). I have raw fed my dogs for 7 years - I also do not vaccinate them - they are the healthiest dogs I have ever lived with. If you think about dogs in the wild - they don't eat grains hardly at all - maybe some grasses, once in awhile, or maybe some stomach contents of the prey they kill.....but certainly not on a daily basis. If kibble was so good for you, then you can bet there probably would be kibble for humans. It is 'dead' food. There is also prepared raw diets for dogs - for people that are uncomfortable with making food for their pets. Table scraps are not bad for the dogs - that is what has been banged into our heads for years. Kibble has only been around since the 40's. They needed something to do with all the excess grains that were available. Kibble is just another 'human' convenience and our dogs are paying for it.
